In my preteen years I was fairly slim. At the age of 12 I was about a size 7, but life became a little hard to bare after a mentor committed suicide. It was a tragic event for my family and myself to go through. I believe the stress from the experience, because I wasn't facing the pain, I slowly started to gain weight. I spent my time concentrating on music and theater. Not only was it the one thing I loved to do most in the world, but it was my escape. I became less active in sports and more active sitting in front of the TV or spending time with the neighbor kids down the road. I played softball, but that was only in the Summer and when Winter hits in Minnesota... people tend to Hibernate. I know I did. If I wasn't in a show, or with a friend, I was probably in front of the TV.
I struggled with weight through my teens, but it didn't really hit me until I was in High School. I had a lot of distractions to just not care about it. I made a lot of excuses. Like Life is short I might as well be happy and just have fun, so I ate whatever I wanted. At that time I Never gave it a second thought. Until I went to College.
Anoka-Ramsey Community College! The Drill Sergeant I like to call him. He was rough and tough and made you work hard. It was required to take a health class and a Phy Ed class. So, I decided to go into weight training. Wow! What a difference. We would run two miles. A mile to warm up and another to really try to beat the clock. His key phrase when lifting, "You need to go slower with your movement. It's more BENEFICIAL!" His enunciation was hard, but so superb to the point that he spit stressing Beneficial was truly beneficial. It's what made you work harder. He made you want it.
In Highschool I suffered from asthma, but not now not at all. It was a struggle getting my mind in the right place when for so long I created personal limitations, but then there comes a break through and you start to see the results. From that point on I was determined to make a difference. I wanted to be healthier and in shape. It felt good to lose the weight. I was successful until the classes stopped and I no longer had access to the equipment. So, my personal fitness was put on hold. I did continue to focus on eating healthy, but there were definite improvements I could have made even then.
Soon after I interviewed for the Walt Disney World Student College Program I ended up in Florida working for the Mouse. Being away I was able to get away from the stuff my parents bought and stuck in the house... like chips and dip and donuts and just junk! I was able to really concentrate on what I wanted to eat. Yet, my one weakness... Ice Cream. And, I saw the results of it too.
When I was at Disney World a group picture had been taken at the Magic Kingdom on Halloween. When I saw it I was truly disturbed and the next day I started working out. I would get up early every day and run about 3 miles to the gym and then run another 4 on the treadmill. And I would push my self. Start off slow and end big so that at the end it was a sprint rather than a jog.
I would use the weight machines to gain strength and tone. At the end of the work out I would run back to my apartment complex. Felt good, but I really didn't see the true potential of getting the results I wanted until I transferred to the University of Northern Colorado.
College at the University allowed free access to a full Gym designed for the Denver Broncos... It was beautiful. I worked out in there every so often through the years until my senior year. I was there every day, lifting, running, kickboxing, power abs, yoga... And MAN! Did it make a difference. No candy! I made an exception for Ice Cream, but I controlled my portions. I was eating mostly veggies and fruits, High protein/low carb diet and eating extremely well. I was taking a multi-vitamin along with a daily supplement regimen and it was working.
I remember going home for a visit and the first thing my brother tells me while giving me a hug..." You seem to get smaller every time you come home." It was a great feeling. And the pictures tell the truth. Hard work and dedication really do pay off.
Well, two years after graduation Jennifer got in to a bit of a money pinch, no access to a free gym, and working hard at the other things in my life that make me happy. Yet, I missed my healthy life style. I missed my daily workout and my vita-regimen. I've seen what I can do and I know I can do it again. I'm better and more successful when there is a group to support me in what I do. So when a friend introduced me to Shakeology, the coaching opportunity, and Team Beachbody Programs was a no brainer to become a Team Beachbody Coach. It was everything I was looking for in addition with everything else that was going on in my life.
Team Beachbody has changed my life. Being a coach has made me more accountable for following through with my eating and working out. After doing P90X is the first time in my entire life that I finally have a set of beautiful abs. I never had that until I started truly eating the right things in accordance to working out every day to P90X. Shakeology has helped me to shed the extra fat from the hard to shed areas of my belly, it helps me push through my work out. I have more endurance, and helping others find a way to improve their own personal health is more rewarding than anything in this world.
Coaching isn't for everyone, but nutrition and fitness should be. It's time to "End the trend" of obesity and that's what Team Beachbody is all about. Making this world a healthier more fit place, so that you can live the life you've always dreamed.
That's me and my purpose in a nutshell. If you want to join in this mission by making a difference in your own life, as well as, others... contact me, because I'm looking for real go getters. Team Beachbody needs YOU.
