March 2008 I won $10,000 in the MDB Transformation Contest.
I am a 38 year old wife, mother of 2 kids and 3 cats, and night shift registered nurse. I have been married 18 years to my sweetheart and best friend. Our daughter is 13 and our son is 10. When I was younger I never thought I’d be so disgusted with my appearance and be so desperate to lose weight. When I was younger I never thought I’d be so disgusted with my appearance and be so desperate to lose weight. When I got married in 1991 I weighed about 120lbs. I thought I’d always be skinny even with a family history of obesity, hypertension, and heart disease. By 1996 I was 160lbs, and after my second child was born in December of 1999 I was consistently over 190lbs. Being overweight led to me being placed on medication for hypertension.
For the next six years I could barely look at myself. Shopping for clothes was a nightmare that would often end with me crying in the dressing room. I took care of my family and ignored my appearance. I avoided going out in public and hid out in the house. I tried numerous times to lose weight but I would get discouraged quickly and quit; the videos I had were boring and the diets left me hungry. I decided that diet and exercise didn’t work for me. Everything distracted me from being physically active and I used any excuse I could come up with to justify my failures. I decided that I’d just have to learn to live with being overweight.

I’m a nurse and work 12 hour night shifts. On a slow night in August 2006, I stopped by an empty room where an infomercial for Turbo Jam was playing on the TV. It grabbed my attention and I couldn’t make myself change the station. I was at a point in my life where my self-esteem was at an all time low. I was miserable with the way I looked and felt. I wasn’t setting the right example for my own kids. Turbo Jam seemed so different from the workout videos that I had at home collecting dust. The music was upbeat and the instructor looked like she was having a great time. It was time to commit myself to doing something about my health.
28 months have passed since the night I found Turbo Jam and I am still going strong. I’m amazed at the physical and emotional changes that have occurred. I’ve gone from wearing a size 14/16 to a size 4/6, and lost nearly 50lbs. Because of my newfound discipline and willpower my self-esteem has exploded. I love shopping for clothes and no longer avoid mirrors and people. I’m much healthier and have been able to decrease my blood pressure medication. People I haven’t seen in a while don’t even recognize me. I’ve inspired a number of friends to start working out. I tell everyone that will listen about Team Beachbody products and support. The only regret I have is being too ashamed to take real “before transformation” photos.
Getting through the last couple years hasn’t always been easy. With my history I knew that finding the time and motivation to exercise, as well as the discipline to continue, was going to be tough. Starting a new workout routine and working night shifts was challenging. It’s difficult to want to do anything, much less exercise, when you get home from a long shift. The 20 minute workout was the perfect answer to the time crunch. Having early success was great motivation and now exercise is such a part of my life I hate going a day without it. The encouragement and support from friends I made on the Team Beachbody Community boards and WOWY really helped keep me going. Even though I was working out at home I was never really alone. There is always someone working out or available to answer your questions. Food will always be a temptation but as I’ve seen what I can accomplish I’ve committed to making healthier food choices for my family and myself.
Being chosen as the March 2008 $10,000 winner was an unbelievable and exciting experience. My life has transformed so much over the last couple of years. I wanted to share that excitement and help others so I became a Coach. I‘ve added P90X and Ten Minute Trainer to my routine and I just finished 4 weeks of ChaLEAN Extreme. I’m stronger and have more energy than I’ve ever had. I no longer want to spend vacation time sitting around the house. I want to get outside and hike, climb, run, swim, and play. Restoring my self-esteem and confidence has made me a better wife, mother, and friend. I am finally becoming the woman I deserve to be, inside and out. Now I am ready for the next adventure.
