My journey with health issues began about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes). Before that I had always been active, I wasn't thin but I wasn't terribly very weight either. I had a child , kept myself going with my family, and felt pretty healthy, so I swear at the time it felt like my whole life just stopped and I thought the world was going to end to be hit so suddenly with a disease. I just couldn't understand how someone like me could have this happen to them. The thought of injecting syringes of insulin into my body, not only terrified me, but it sent me into a deep depression. For probably four years I was in complete denial that I even had the disease. I just sat back and watched my sugars and health decline and did nothing. The word "disease" no matter what kind it is, is not something that is easy to deal with, much less to understand. I simply didn't want to believe I had a disease, but the weight I gained from injecting hundreds of units of insulin, getting severely sick from just the common cold, feeling weak and lethargic all the time, having my vision go horribly bad....the list goes on, I FINALLY realized I did have a disease and I NEEDED to do something about it!
The medical industry was not much help to me, as their only advice was to pump myself with more and more insulin to bring my sugars down. They didn't mention the side effects of insulin or the importance of diet and exercise. They made it sound so easy to just shoot yourself up with insulin every time your sugars went up, but that was far from a cure and the side effects of just doing that was only an added addition to the bad health I was headed in. Insulin of course stores fat, so the more you take, the harder it is to lose weight. I finally just got sick of being sick and tired. I can't exactly recall the day or time, I just knew I was capable of a lot more and needed to figure this whole diabetes thing out. I was blessed with a beautiful family and home and in order to enjoy my blessings I knew I needed to be healthy! So I started learning about Type 1 Diabetes on my own and slowly but surely started being able to cut back my insulin usage, which then helped me to lose unwanted weight. Granted I'm still on insulin, but nothing like I used to be. I also still struggle with my weight because I am on insulin still, but again nothing like I used too. Incorporating a clean diet and exercise plan changed my entire life and has helped me to control this nasty disease. I still have trouble with it from time to time, but I learned how to control it and not allow it to control me anymore. You can read more about my story in my mini book called “A Day In The Life Of Me” to get a more detailed idea of everything I've done over the last 5 years to get my diabetes and health in order at: http://tudiabetes.com/profiles/blogs/583967:BlogPost:117977
Thanks to Beach body and their exercise programs I was able to not only help my disease, I was able to feel good about myself again. I began my Beachbody journey about 5 years ago with Power90. Now granted I'm only human and I didn't become a fitness nut over night, but that program was the start for me in realizing what exercise could do for you body and health. So over the last 5 years I went through several different Beachbody programs such as P90X twice, Chalene Extreme, and INSANITY. With each and every program I got in a better shape not only physically but mentally as well. I became a Beachbody junkie! Before I knew it my sugars, health, body, heart and mind were stronger than they'd ever been! I still have a long way to go and the side effects of insulin still keep weight on me, but I'm determined and know that if I keep going I'll just keep succeeding! I just began a 90 Day Holiday Challenge and I'm so excited! I have so many other people joining me and together I know we will just continue to get results from Beachbody!
I did not know that you could become a Beachbody Coach but when I found out that you could become one, it just made sense to me to become one. I became a coach in Jan of 2009 and though life had different plans for me over this last year, I'm finally finding time to dedicate to being a coach. I'm loving every minute and believe without a doubt this is what I'm meant to do. I've been through a lot of pain when it comes to health and I believe I can offer others the support they need to get their own health under control. I look forward to my future as a Beachbody Coach and helping others change their lives! Beachbody changed my life and I'm thankful for that every day. Keep smiling, dreaming, living, and believing!!! Please let me know if I can help you in any way! Thanks so much!
