Grew up in the South and slowly moved my way across the states to land here in beautiful San Diego about 25 years ago. Over the years I haven't been too kind to my body, particularly in the years right after divorce. Started surfing about two years ago and that really showed me how out of shape I was, plus the smoking didn't help. Surfing more and more landed me in physical therapy for impingements in both shoulders causing pain and weakness in the arms.
Oddly, after years of not exercising -- I often defended not exercising by explaining there's only one activity I like to sweat and breathe hard for, and exercise ain't it -- I found myself getting into the PT exercises, and noticing the improvements in my shoulders through the exercises.
For some odd reason, I recorded a P90X infomercial one night in September 2009, watched it, and I thought "maybe". Checking it out, I read what seemed like some impartial reviews that explained how hard core the P90X program was, and suggested starting slower to work up to it - i.e., Power90. So I ordered it.
Well, started Power90 on October 16, 2009, quit smoking the day before, and just kept pressing play. The results were pretty good, particularly since I quit smoking and still lost weight. Through 90 days of Power90, I toned up, changed my diet completely, lost a bit of weight, stayed away from the smokes, and got some more energy. Not a bad return on investment!
After some time on the Power90 Master series, I started P90X on April 26, 2010. Wow - I'm glad I went with Power90 first! I enjoyed the increased intensity, but I probably would have died without the conditioning of Power90. I blogged about the X as I progressed. I was a coach for a while, and used Shakeology daily with the first round of P90X to continue slimming down. It's been a change of lifestyle that's comfortable and feels right.
I'd love to encourage you to do it for yourself!
