Spring Lake, NJ New Year's resolutions for most people almost always include joining a gym or actually using a membership that they have been paying for over a long period of time, eating better, walking more, etc, etc, etc. I know, I had those same resolutions year after year. When I had a gym membership I used it, but never saw results. I was content that as long as I went a few times a week and did New Year's resolutions for most people almost always include joining a gym or actually using a membership that they have been paying for over a long period of time, eating better, walking more, etc, etc, etc. I know, I had those same resolutions year after year. When I had a gym membership I used it, but never saw results. I was content that as long as I went a few times a week and did some reps on the weight machines and 30-45 minutes on the treadmill or cross trainer the extra pounds would simply disappear. After thousands of dollars in membership fees and several years later, I never understood why I didn't look better or feel better. To get to my ideal body weight I only needed to lose about 25-30 pounds. Why was it so difficult?
My job in the IT consulting field required me to travel almost weekly. The long work days, the checking in and out of hotels, getting delayed in airports and long flights was not a recipe for working out and getting in shape. It was easy to eat bad foods anytime of the day or night since fast food was most convenient, and finding the energy and motivation to get to the gym was hard to find.
In the fall of 2008 I was spending a lot of time between Satellite Beach, Florida and Steamboat Springs, Colorado and no longer had a gym membership. I saw the infomercials for P90X on tv and quickly dismissed them. After seeing them more often, I remained skeptical, but was intrigued at the people doing the workouts and how there was no magic gadget, diet pill, or anything else other than standard free weights and a pull up bar. I kept thinking, there has to be a catch, but they were simply doing push ups and pull ups. I searched the internet for P90X reviews determined to find something wrong with the program. Remarkably, the only negative things I could find were that the program was too difficult and people gave up after just a couple weeks into the 90 days.
I finally decided to order and give it a try. Before the DVD's arrived I logged onto the teambeachbody site and started reading the multitudes of message board threads from people in various stages of the program. The support and accountability by so many was amazing. Once I got the DVD's I started the next day using a doorway mounted pull up bar and a couple dumbbells. The first couple weeks I was hitting the pause button quite often since I needed the longer breaks between sets. My pull up numbers were very low (3-6 in the beginning) and I had never felt so sore. I was determined the stick with it and posted my progress on a couple active message board threads. I also read the P90X Nutrition Guide and drastically changed my eating habits according to the plan. If I was going to do the program, I was going to do it all the way.
After two weeks I started noticing physical changes in my chest and back. I had the motivation to keep going even though I didn't see much change on the scale. In fact, I gained a couple pounds initially with the all the food I was eating and muscle I was building. After 30 days the weight started going down and my clothes fit better. I was feeling great and knew the program was working. By the end of the 90 days, I lost the love handles and even the "man boobs"! I went from a pant size of 34 to 32, and dropped a whopping 25 pounds - from 187 to 163. I felt great, but what really gave me a boost was the reaction from friends and family that I hadn't seen in a while. A number of people followed up with me months later and told me that I motivated them to start a program (some P90X, while others chose a different Beachbody routine) and how it made a difference in their lives.
I have recently started a new round of P90X. My work travel schedule has me flying around the country regularly, but I plan my meals and get my workouts in at the hotel gym by pushing play on my smartphone. It is great to meet others at the hotel gyms that see me doing P90X and remark how they have started the program or completed it. A few mention that they need the motivation to start it again. With those interactions in mind, I decided to become a Team Beachbody Coach so I can officially coach and motivate others.
With 2011 now upon us, it is a great time to follow through with that New Year's resolution of getting in the best shape of your life. If you find it difficult to stay motivated and stick with whatever program you decided to do, get in touch with me and we can help keep each other accountable and motivated to get through each workout to meet our goals. The best part is, the coaching is free so why put it off any longer? In the words of Tony Horton, just show up and keep pushing play!

Completed first round of P90X two years ago and lost 25 pounds in 90 days! The most rewarding part was not only how I looked and felt, but when others commented on the great changes. I am now doing another round of P90X, supplemented by running on the treadmill when traveling for work and skiing as much as possible this winter in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Learning how to eat well is the other half of the battle. Nutrition is key along with the resistance workouts. The results are so great I decided to become a Team Beachbody Coach to motivate others and keep me motivated as well. Are you ready to Bring It? Contact me and I'll show you how!
