I’m originally from Indiana but Hampton Roads Virginia has been my home since 1993 courtesy of the U.S. Air Force.
I was introduced to Beachbody with the P90X program. I was looking for something that would motivate me and help keep me consistent with nutrition and exercise. I was tired of having large legs and hips that didn’t match my smaller upper body. I was also freaked out when I started seeing rolls on my waist line. Sound familiar ladies?
This program helped me regain focus and commitment in keeping fit. You see, I was active in sports during high school and stayed physically active while serving eight years in the US Air Force. Somewhere along the line though, I gained weight and wasn't consistent in my exercise and eating routines.
I knew how to work out. I'd been going to the gym for nearly twenty years. I have some awesome home gym equipment. I've learned a lot during this time about nutrition. What went wrong?
For me, it boils down to one word and one word alone - consistency. When I played sports, I had to show up for practice and games. I had goals to meet, and I met them when I was challenged.
In the military, being fit was part of my job. I'm not even going to talk about the brutal get fit program you go through when you first go in.
Then, I went through several years of trying to work out at home and trying to work out at the gym. I'd do well for a few weeks and then, I'd stop going because I didn't feel good or I had to work late...
When I saw our P90X commercial, I knew this program was for me. It was challenging and would give me a plan to follow. I knew I could stick with it for 90 days.
At about 60 days, I felt like I was getting stronger and had more energy. I was so excited to be able to do a side plank and curl more weight than I ever had in my life. Suddenly, I realized that I was still motivated enough to push play six times a week. I was challenged to perform at my best. I was determined to remain consistent to these grueling workouts.
I realized that the missing piece in my history was that I didn’t have a personal trainer in my living room anytime that fit in my busy schedule. I could also connect with other people doing the same program which gave me an avenue to share my successes, ask for help, or just vent. Now, I'm a coach because I want to stay consistent and teach others to do the same. I realized Beachbody gave me what I had in the military and in sports...structure, systems, and support.
After completing P90X, I tried some of the ealier Beachbody programs and knew that this company recognized that one fitness program and one trainer did not fit everyone. A year after being a part of the Beachbody community, my favorite program is ChaLean Extreme.
I love Chalene Johnson's training methods. I think they are more effective and motivating for women. Today, I am updating my profile because I am excited about Chalene's newest program, TurboFire. I expect to have it delivered by 6/25/10 and begin using it in July. I will write about it on my blog at http://JustGetMeFit.com just as I do for other Beachbody home fitness workout programs. Turbo Fire is a cardio system based on the science high intensity interval training.

What was life like before? I’ve had gym memberships for over twenty years: Scandinavian, Bally’s, Gold’s, and the YMCA. I’ve had awesome home gym equipment, including a treadmill, treadclimber, elliptical, Bowflex, Bowflex Ultimate, Bowflex Revolution, PowerTec, a power rack, smith machine, free weights….need I go on? You’d think I was a tri-athlete or personal trainer.
Even with all this equipment and some nice gym memberships, I couldn’t keep myself motivated to stay consistent enough to see the results I wanted. I watched my weight go up and down over the years. It finally started leveling off at about thirty pounds over weight. When I saw the rolls developing on my waist line, I’d had enough. What would it take? I was down to one pair of jeans and they were getting tighter.
Then, I stumbled on a P90X infomercial. It reminded me of boot camp when I first entered the Air Force several years ago. I thought about it, and blam! It came to me. I had a distinct a pattern in my life with sports, military, college, and my career. I needed team support, a challenge, and goals. I needed a plan that made sense, one with a clear path. P90X helped me regain my confidence. I’ve been consistent with working out and fueling my body with smart nutrition. I like what I see in the mirror and what I hear from others. After about six weeks, I’d lost 2 ½ inches from my waist! Wow! After four months and ten days of Beachbody workouts, I've lost 17 pounds and 10% bodyfat. My waist is FIVE inches smaller. I've also lost two inches on my hips and an inch on each thigh.
I was hooked on Beachbody. I learned about this thing called “coaching,” and had another visionary moment. Maybe my late life issue with consistency is why I was making less now than I did twelve years ago. Combine that with inflation and my growing debt from trying to survive in this economy. What was I thinking?
I joined as a coach around my 60 day mark in P90X. I saw a plan that made sense, one with a clear path. I don’t have to “survive” in this economy, I can thrive! I know good things are ahead and hope you’ll join me on this incredible journey.
