I've always been active but lacked in diet growing up. My mom didn't cook and we went out to eat a lot. When I was old enough to make my own food choices, I ate fairly healthy (or so I thought) but lacked the nutritional education to truly make healthier choices. When I was 20, an event in my life pushed me towards getting the information I needed to make healthier lifestyle choices. I was able to maintain my weight through nutrition and exercise and didn't think much about it. In 2002 I suffered a severe back injury when I rode a mechanical bull for more than 30 seconds at almost full speed. When I landed, I crushed my L1 Vertebra. I knew I would be in pain for the rest of my life. When I got married to my husband in 2003, nutrition went out the window as we settled down into married life. When I got pregnant with my daughter, I decided I could eat what I wanted. The day I gave birth I weighed 197 pounds. Since I'm only 5'5", that's a lot of weight. At my 6 week check-up, I was down to 174. Later that summer, disgusted with the way I looked and felt, I joined a popular weight loss group. I lost 25 pounds and was happier with myself. As always, life happened and I never reached my goal. I ended up putting quite a bit of the weight back on. Here in North Dakota, the summer is nice enough to go outside and be active, but the winters are absolutely brutal and activity outside is not possible due to the extreme temps. It is not unusual for the temperature to get to -40 degrees F with a wind-chill factor of -60 degrees F. I bought an eliptical machine and used it regularily but didn't see much of a difference. I needed something different that I could do at home. I knew if I could exercise at home, I would be able to stick to a routine better. I purchased Turbo Jam in September of 2008 when my husband was deployed to Afganistan. I saw the infomercial when I was depressed and couldn't sleep. I figured a new exercise program would be just the thing to get me into shape AND keep depression away. Boy was I right! I saw some pretty good results but "fell off the wagon" when he came home. I got so busy with things that I forgot about myself. I then got sick with Bronchitis and Pneumonia and put exercise on the back-burner. My back pain was also flairing up to the point where it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning. I had done physical therapy after my daughter was born but saw no change in my pain level. Prescription pain killers also had no effect. I decided to try physical therapy again in December of 2008 in hopes that I would see a difference. There was a small difference, but my pain stayed pretty intense. In January of 2009, my Team Beach Body Coach Karen e-mailed me to let me know that WOWY was $1000 that day. I figured, "what have I got to lose? I'm already in pain. It might as well be for the chance of winning money." I popped in my Turbo Jam workout that day and felt great. I was still in pain, but I was determined to go for it again the next day. I started doing Cardio Party 5 days a week and Turbo Sculpt 2 days a week. Something amazing happened. I noticed on days I did Turbo Sculpt that my back didn't hurt as much. Without telling my Physical Therapist what I was doing, I ordered ChaLEAN Extreme to see if heavier weights would help relieve even more pain the way the light weights in Turbo Sculpt helped. The first day was tough; ChaLEAN Extreme is a tough, but doable program. I followed the schedule of videos and the nutrition program. Three days into the program something amazing happened. I woke up one day and got out of bed and went down to the kitchen to fix breakfast. It was in the middle of fixing breakfast that I realized I was in NO pain and that I had stood straight up out of bed that morning. I had not been able to do that in almost 7 years. When I went to Physical Therapy the next day, my physical therapist asked what I was doing differently. He noticed SIGNIFICANT changes in my progress, flexability, and pain level in only 1 week. I told him about ChaLEAN Extreme and he was impressed. I am now training for a triathlon in July (something I NEVER would have thought about doing before). To say that Team Beach Body has changed my life is an understatement. Not only has it changed the way I look, but it has opened up new possibilities in my life. This summer will be the first time in my life I will actually be excited to be in a bathing suit at the lake. Because of Team Beach Body, I have the resources to take care of my body and teach my daughter to do the same. I am setting an example for her and that keeps me going every day. Play, Shake, & Share is my new way of life!
It's been almost 30 days and I'm seeing some awesome results! My arms are toning up and my waist has nipped in quite a bit. My jeans are also quite loose. I can't wait to see the next 30+ days!
