I gave myself the best christmas present this year, the gift of being fit once again! I finished my P90X journey Christmas morning before the presents were unwrapped! I am happily married with a seven month old son. I gave myself the best christmas present this year, the gift of being fit once again! I finished my P90X journey Christmas morning before the presents were unwrapped! It feels fantastic to share my story and I thank this program for all of the positive changes, inside and out. I have been an athlete my entire life and played college basketball, however the time in my life that I happened to be in the best shape occurred after my playing days were over and up until my wedding day in July, 2006. With new changes and challenges, personally and more so professionally, I packed on the pounds. Combined with a bout of mild depression, terrible eating habits and resistance to exercise---in less than a year, I sabotaged all of the gains and efforts of the previous seven years. From a fit 6'2 frame that checked in at 185 lbs, I was now overweight, unhappy and unhealthy at 245 lbs. I looked in the miror and asked myself, what the hell had I just done to my body??!! In fact what happened was all of the extra weight made me a different person and not for the better that's for sure. I was resistant to social activities, reclusive and ashamed. I desperately wanted to be my old self, but I knew all of the work and dedication that would need to take place for that wish to materialize once again. My mother always told me that the man upstairs has a plan for each and every one of us. Well, last August, 2008, I came home from work and my wife greeted me with the good news that she was pregnant! This incredible news lit a fire under my belt as I now was determined to lose weight. I had 10 months to make some positive changes. Fast forward to our son's birth and I was 30 pounds lighter at 215 lbs, primarily due to long distance running and improved eating habits. Don't get me wrong, I was pleased with the results, but I yearned for more. I wanted to be leaner and more muscular. I wanted more of a physical transformation than the running provided. I had purchased P90X and it was simply gathering dust in our basement for some time. After our son was born in May of this year, I again fell into a bit of a rut amidst all of the challenges that arise from being a new father. I put on 10 lbs and the scale read 225. I knew where this was heading... Well, not this time!! One of my best buds and former college hoops teammate, Wayne Fletcher (my unofficial BeachBody Coach) had just completed P90X and experienced some awesome results! After viewing his pictures and hearing about his journey, I was hooked and curious to follow in his footseps. I am truly grateful that he had the guts to start and complete the program first, I needed that to jumpstart my involvement. Boy, was I in for the shocker of my life with this program and this crazy guy, Tony Horton!! I was literally almost brought to tears that first week from many of the workouts, specifically PlyoX, YogaX and Ab RipperX. At the same time I knew from the get go that if I stuck this out, the results would come. I kept showing up and pushing play each morning. I also bought into eating a cleaner diet, watching portions and calorie intake, as well as correct supplementation. The confidence began to grow and I started to see results immediately, which did wonders for the mind. I started P90X at 225 lbs on 9/27/09 and on Christmas day 2009, that same scale read 197 lbs! More importantly than the weight loss, my physique changed. Muscle definition returned and everything all over improved--legs, back, arms, shoulders and stomach. Leaner, stronger and fit! There is nothing like the feeling of being fit and in control once again. You cannot put a pricetag on that inner peace. I am very pleased with my results, but there is always room to improve and new challenges to embark on. As I look back to previous fit photos, I still have more work to do. I will get there. I am considering round two of P90X. A special thanks to my official BeachBody Coach, Karla Reese. Her emails, insight and encouragement proved to be invaluable. A very, very special thank you to my beautiful wife, Gloria, a full-time teacher who would handle the mornings with our son so that I could wake up at 5:30 am to work out. Lastly, I believe in P90X wholeheartedly. Tony is right on the money with his theories on muscle confusion and mixing up the workouts. I love the variety and you never get bored! As I said earlier, I have changed physically and mentally. It is truly amazing what can transpire in 90 days. When you think about it, 13 weeks is such a short amount of time. Commit yourself to it fully and the results will come. I am a better person, father and husband thanks to this program. I will never go back. This is just the beginning for me, I love this lifestyle! I know one thing for sure, life is more fun when you are fit and I plan to have lots of fun for many years to come! | Please sign in to flag this as inappropriate.
