Just a little history on my journey so far started 4/2/09 I quit smoking , and started my nutrition reform,( fancy name for diet ) I was 420 lbs cholest through the moon , high blood press , and a adult onset type 2 diabetes . my a1c was a totally mismanaged 9.8 the list of med's I was on was a shame for anyone to be on let alone a 44 yr old man , crestor 20 mg, lotrel 10/40 , glynase, actos, and 90 units of lantos insulin at night. nexium 40 mg ambien 10 mg . that's some list huh?. oh and lexapro 20 mg for depression. my diet started by removing half of whatever I wanted to eat, no white flour, no sugar, no soda, i followed this for about two months, then I went to a mostly organic low glycimic whole food diet. 50% protein 30% complex carbs, 20% fats, omega 3, flaxseed, coconut oil. approx 1800 cal a day. after i lost about 10% of my weight (40 lbs or so ) I started to walk, and believe me it wasn't far. I was lucky to have some good friends at work that would walk with me. by the end of July I started to walk/run using the couch to 5k program for my iphone. well I run 3 to 4 miles 5 days a week now , and I did my first 5k nov 8 , and another on thanksgiving, and a 10k this past Monday. eating healthy and exercising has been life changing for me . as of nov 4 my cholest is perfect, bp perfect, and my last a1c was 5.7 and that is with no meds at all!! amazing when i think of how i treated my body. no wonder i was depressed . where I am now is 283 lbs, and my goal is 200 muscular lbs , and move on to p90X . I am defiantly lacking in upper body strength . I have faith this program, and support from good people that I will achieve my goals . I am retiring in less than 18 months, and I want to live a long healthy happy life.
