My goals are to lose 40-45 pounds, run a sub-4 hour marathon, and fit in these skinny jeans I bought 4 years ago. I want to be healthy, so the weight loss isn't as important as making sure my cholesterol and blood sugar are within good limits. Obtaining my goals is very important to me, and I am willing to give myself enough time to do this, as long as it is done right. I am not a very patient person, so this tends to be difficult. But, this time, I am determined.
Most importantly, I want to be active for a very long time. My family lives into their 90's, so I am looking at being the 90 year old woman who finishes a marathon!

I started a diet on New Year's Day, and did pretty well for the first 3 months. But I never made my goal. As I have really slipped in my eating clean venture, I have seen half of the pounds I lost creep back on. So, I must take a new start and work even harder to keep up with eating right, and lay off the junk food. Since I recently lost my job, I have been taking solace in comfort food.
I am determined to lose 20 pounds before the end of the summer and my arrival in Europe. Being in the states, it makes it difficult not to gain weight. It is like the land of the giants. Although there are a few overweight people in Europe, it is not to the extreme it is in the US. We really have become a culture of excess. I am always in competition, and in Europe I have to step it up. As I am of average build in the US, even at my current weight, I let myself slip. Also, there is not an abundance of easy, fast food restaurants in Europe, so the temptation will not be so great when it comes to being lazy with dinner preparation.
I have plans to participate in a couple of races during my first year in Germany. One is in Wurzberg next May. I think I will do the half-marathon. Half's are my favorite. It is enough time to feel like you have accomplished something, but not so much your legs want to fall right off your body. There is also a marathon in Frankfurt in October. I think I will do the full marathon in 2010. This gives me more than a year of being in Germany to be able to train and plan. I also want to get a better time than my really slow 5+ hours I had in Germany. This time, I won't let my iPod die!
I have a lot of plans and goals, and my timeline for losing all of the weight is set for New Years Eve 2009. 7 months to lose 45 pounds is a reasonable goal. Of course, I will need help to lose those last ten. But, I have every confidence that this will not be a problem with the right support, the right diet and a good amount of exercise.
