My name is Leslie, I am a 39 year old wife, mother, and currently a stay at home mom, not by choice but because I am recovering from the blood clots in my left thigh. I have two beautiful daughters’ ages 17 and 11 and right now my life is all about them. I had my first daughter while in college years ago; she was born with a hole in her lung so I put my degree on hold to take care of her.
Though it was tough in the beginning she is doing great. As she got older I went to work and again my degree was on hold, not that I’m blaming having a child for halting my dreams but it was difficult. I was not big before having my daughter but found it a bit difficult to take off all of the weight after having her but even after I was still not overweight. As the years went by my husband and I had another baby girl and life very was busy, and I lost myself. I concentrated on being the best mom and the best wife and didn’t really allow time for myself. I was always on the go with work, leaving home at 6am not returning until 7pm, every day became a constant struggle.
So fast forward to 2007, when I was finally able to return to school and get my associates in Criminal Justice, next is getting my bachelors in Business, and then off to law school. I believe it’s never too late to fulfill your dreams. While I was attending school full time, I was also working full time and I felt that my life was finally heading in the direction I wanted it to. I started exercising again, eating right and I was feeling great. Then one day at work I started having chest pains, found it hard to breathe went to the ER and nothing was found out of the ordinary. But was still having trouble breathing, soon thereafter I was diagnosed with asthma, then high blood pressure, I was burnt out.
Then one morning in early 2009 I woke up with a pain in my leg and as the day progressed it got worst so I headed to the ER, I was very lucky I did; I had a blood clot in my left thigh. I was hospitalized for five days. It took a few weeks to get back on my leg again but once I started feeling better I slowly started walking for exercise and felt great. Then in April of the same year I developed another blood clot in the same leg, though this time it was the length on my entire thigh. It took me almost a year and a half to get back to doing much of what I used to do. My left leg is about 2-3” bigger than my right leg and my never get back down to the size it was. I have learned to live with it but still run into obstacles at times. At one point I was on my blood thinners, high blood pressure meds and asthma meds and my body as taken a beating. I am off all meds but the blood thinners which I may be on for the rest of my life but I chose not to dwell on that too much. My thyroid is at the borderline but my doctors won’t put me on meds because it is still within “normal range”. But I may not need it after all because I’m hoping that using Shakeology will help improve this, thanks Hank!!
