Parsons, TN As a kid growing up, I was active as any other kid...running, playing, riding bicycles, etc. My older brother and I were constantly competing with each other. It didn't matter if it were wrestling or basketball or racing or whatever. Of course, we still had chores to do...the usual stuff. Most of my younger years I was a "skinny" person.
In my late teens and early 20s, I got into a fitness As a kid growing up, I was active as any other kid...running, playing, riding bicycles, etc. My older brother and I were constantly competing with each other. It didn't matter if it were wrestling or basketball or racing or whatever. Of course, we still had chores to do...the usual stuff. Most of my younger years I was a "skinny" person.
In my late teens and early 20s, I got into a fitness craze...lifting weights and jogging...I stayed in good shape. In my late 20s and early 30s, I began getting into another shape...ROUND! I had injured my back while working. Needless to say, just sitting around and not controlling what I ate began to show. I went from 150 pounds to 240 pounds...then to 298 at my heaviest.
I have worked at many different jobs over the years with most of them viewing me as a human fork lift just because I was a "big guy". When the fork lift would break down, they didn't need me anymore. My current job is as a middle school janitor. It seems to be working out. The kids treat me like I'm one of them and the teachers do too. Ha!
One of the teachers in particular had been doing this exercise program and started telling me that I should try it. I had been "round" so long that all I would do is make "fat jokes" to her. I had accepted that I was fat. Plus it kept her heart beating strong when her blood pressure would go up. Ha!
Persistence is one of her many traits, so she continued to talk to me about Power 90 and P90X and Shakeology AND I continued to make jokes. After some serious thought and the thought of how hard it is to tie my shoes, I went to her and said "I'm tired of being fat. It's time to do something about it."
Since that day, she has been my training coach, my nutrition coach, and my friend. Words can't say enough for what I believe in my heart that she has done for me.
Persistence DOES pay off!!
