I’ve always been very athletic and proud of my fitness abilities my whole life. Growing up, I participated in and played every sport and activity I could convince my parents to throw me into. In high school, I played competitive club soccer and was fortunate enough to have scholarship offers to play in college.
While for the most part soccer and school were my life, so was food. And lots of it! I never ate the “good” things either. It was all about high sugar content and the more chocolate something had, the better!
I started to notice in that while I was still competitive and could power through games and practices, I was always just a step or two behind everyone else. I always ran out of gas sooner and crashed harder when training was over. I worked just as hard as everyone around me so I began to try and eat a little bit better to see if that made a difference. It made a huge difference! But I by no means had a good nutritional foundation and I still clung to my sugar addiction. I would eat well for a few days, feel deprived, give into my cravings, and binge-eat anything in sight. I simply didn’t know enough to make it work.
I stopped playing for a year, gained about 30 lbs from my inactivity and poor eating habits, and was very unhappy with myself. I decided to get back in shape so that I could be fit enough to play for my college team when the season came around again. I began with the tried and true methods of cardio 5-6 days a week, weights every other day, and a reduced calorie diet with less refined carbohydrates and a higher protein intake. It was working, slowly but surely, but I was actually beginning to feel as though I was getting weaker instead of stronger. Once again, I didn’t know enough about proper nutrition to fuel my body to make the gains I was striving for.
One morning, while I was flipping through the 5 a.m. TV stations and riding my stationary bike, I flipped passed a commercial for P90X. I only caught a quick glimpse of the incredibly ripped people talking about it but I was hooked and frantically changed the channel back until I found it again. I watched the whole thing while I continued to bike and when the commercial was over, I realized I was drenched in sweat, heart rate out of control, and pedaling that little bike almost beyond its capacity to hold together. I felt like I was going to take off flying on the thing! Just from watching these people work out and talk about their passion and belief in this program, I was so pumped that I broke my bike!
I knew at that moment that I needed to break my own personal rule about not ordering things off of TV and get this program IMMEDIATELY and see how much more I was capable of. I took it as a challenge to myself to be in better shape than the other girls who would be running miles a day and wind sprints all summer. I took that challenge and I’ve never looked back.
I was able to go from 186 lbs at 5’6” to 132 lbs and down 14% body fat. I’ve never had more energy, stamina, and overall joy in every aspect of my life than I do now.
Thanks to P90X, Beachbody, and this entire community, I now wake up every day knowing that I am in the best shape of my life and tomorrow, I will be even better! I understand how nutrition works now, all of its little ins-and-outs, I know how proper supplementation can make all the difference and be the edge that takes you to that next level, and I definitely understand how to BRING IT every day and train with intensity to have the health, body, and life of my dreams.
I’ll never be able to thank the great people that are Beachbody enough for the life I have now, but I will certainly try every day by spreading the word and helping others to achieve their wildest health and fitness goals as a Team Beachbody Coach.
Need help getting to where you want to be? Have any questions about nutrition, the right fitness program for you, Shakeology and other supplements, or how to become a Team Beachbody Coach and help others while making a decent income for yourself? All the best!
Lisa
