I was able to maintain a somewhat healthy weight through my early 20's, although I would never have considered myself thin. After securing a full time job and later marrying my husband, a more sedentary lifestyle began. My workouts waned and became pretty much extinct. Starting a family and working had taken precedence in my life. After 5 pregnancies very close together, my weight continued to increase over the years. After the first pregnancy, I had gained 20 pounds and was not able to lose all of it. I attempted to workout again and diet to get back into shape, but quickly lost interest. I was pregnant again for the second time and used that as an excuse. During our third pregnancy, we were informed after the sonogram that our son was very ill with the disease hydrops. Two weeks later, Nathaniel Elliott was stillborn. After this devastating loss, I dealt with my grief through binge eating. I would eat until I was literally sick and gained 20 pounds in one month. During my last two pregnancies, the doctor nicely informed me I didn't really need to gain any weight during my pregnancy. My weight had gotten to over 200 pounds. I hated the way I looked. I didn't care about my appearance and rarely bought myself any new clothes. I even tried a new hairstyle, but inside I didn't like who I had become. I had no energy and no desire to be social and active. I attempted to lose weight through healthy eating and exercising but wasn't able to maintain any losses and eventually stopped.
My decision to seriously pursue a healthy lifestyle was sparked when my father who was 59 years old underwent triple bypass surgery on my 37th birthday. Sitting in the waiting room during his surgery gave me a lot of time to reflect on my current weight and where it could possibly lead me in the future. Heart disease, stroke, and diabetes run in my family, and I didn't want to be another statistic. It's time to take action and do things to change my current weight situation. It's time for a change, a lasting change.

Shortly after Dad's surgery I started changing my diet and was able to lose 10 lbs. I didn't want this time to be like the past- lose the weight and gain it back. I would frequently wear some of my old maternity clothes, so I bagged them up and removed them from the house. I knew that if I wanted to attain my overall health goals I needed to find a workout routine that I could stick to and support to keep me on track. The search began for something that would keep my interest and motivate me to continue on my pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. It was early fall when I saw an infomercial for TurboJam. It looked fun and interesting, so I decided to give it a try.
I work full-time, so I understand the stresses of balancing work, family and maintaining a home, but I have found that I can make time to workout. I once heard that you make time for the things you want to do. I found that my best time to workout is in the evening after I put the little ones to bed.
I started TurboJam in early November and was able to maintain my weight during the dreaded holiday season. The workouts were fun and definitely kept my interest. At the first of the year, I modified my eating habits and kicked my workouts into high gear. I started to become a more active participant on my coaches' thread and enjoyed the online community of support I'd found. Everyone on my coaches' thread was talking about P90X, so I made the X my future fitness goal. My weight started to decline with TurboJam - I was actually making progress. In the spring, I began the P90 workout series. I definitely noticed an increase in my fitness abilities and my stamina. I do some international travel for my job and found that I usually took a break from my workouts. I love that my Beachbody workouts are mobile, light-weight and can travel with me. My biggest struggle has been maintaining a healthy diet. I found the diet guides that came with the workouts are very helpful and my online support group is key in holding me accountable. I now deal with my stressful moments through a good workout rather than a binge in the pantry. I moved on to the P90 Master Series in the summer. My online support group has been great in offering fitness and diet challenges, encouragement when needed and a kick in pants when necessary. I started P90X on November 1st. I have lost a total of 45 pounds and am below my pre-pregnancy weight. My friends, family and coworkers have all commented to me on my weight loss. I have tons more energy and have gained my self-confidence back. My attitude is more positive impacting all areas of my life including my work, my marriage and my family. I actually enjoy shopping for myself again. I can run and play in the backyard with my family and not be winded. A year ago, I would have never thought I could take on the challenge of P90X and finishing my final phase. With my awesome support structure, I will tackle the rest of my weight loss and healthy lifestyle goals.
Beachbody gave me the answer I needed: workouts when it fits my schedule, workouts that easily travel where I go, exciting workouts to keep my interest, and an awesome support structure to motivate and inspire me to keep pushing play.
