I was always a big kid. But growing up I was always playing sports or outside. I come from big stock but the sports always seemed to overcome the genetics. I decided not to play sports in college and then spent a couple of years in South America. It was awesome but the people were too nice and I ate too much and exercised too little. After getting home I had to spend a couple of years working

I started exercising with Power90 in September 2004. I happened to see the Power90 commercial a couple of times and knew that it was different than the rest of the sham TV exercise programs. The real exercise appealed to me. I knew that I had to lose weight I just didn't know what to do. When I stepped on the scale in August of 2004 it was the breaking point. I ordered Power90 that day. It came a couple of weeks later and I started it the next day. I realized that this was a program I could do and like. I had good success - losing 50 pounds. I got lots of compliments but more importantly I felt good. I did have my ups and downs depending on my commitment level to exercise and diet.

By the latter part of 2006 I had put back on 25 pounds of the original 50. Luckily my brother decided to organize a family weight loss competition to help him lose weight and maybe pad his pocket. I decided that if I put in $100 dollars I was going to win. I started pushing play on the Power90 and the Power Half-Hour series. Additionally, I ran several times a week. I was very motivated and driven to win. Needless to say by the end of the nearly four months I was in great shape. I felt great and had tons of energy. I was running a lot and improved from 12 minute mile at the beginning to sub 7 minute miles at the end. I lost 26% of my body weight and my final weigh-in was 184.5. My biggest problem was that I didn't have a follow-up plan for after the competition. However, I didn't have a plan for after I won. My only goal had been to win the family competition. I fell off the wagon. The competition had ended right before Christmas. So what did I do – I spent the whole Christmas vacation eating all the stuff I had not eaten for four months, chocolate, candies, cake, ice cream. It made my physically ill but I kept eating it anyway thinking that I would make up for it later. Well I didn't. My biggest problem was that I had no plan of attack for after the weight loss competition. I had been so focused on winning. My lack of planning/goal setting left me aiming pointlessly at nothing. Because I had no goal it was hard to exercise. Mount on top of that the fact that I then injured my calf muscle and had another medical problem sneak up on me. I was sidelined and packing on the pounds. I was throwing away all that hard work.

Fast forward to today I am back to where I started the family weight loss competition. I am sick and tired of knowing where I was and knowing that I could have and should have never let myself get back to where I am. I have recently tried to get excited about exercising again but the blankets seems way to heavy in the morning and the snooze button is always getting pushed. I need something to take me where I know that I am supposed to be. I am ready to take it to the next level in P90X. My wife knew this and purchased P90X for a Christmas present. I am excited and anxious but I plan to do three sets - lean, classic and then?

Update: May 2009 – I have completed the lean phase. Although I did not follow the diet plan I did lose 30 lbs. I have pushed play everyday (except Sundays) since started P90X. It is awesome. I might not look forward to Tony kicking my butt during the different routines but I love it! It gives me something to look forward to. I enjoy the muscle confusion and the endless torture my muscle endure. I did injure my knee in the middle of the lean phase – possibly the MCL (hopefully not the meniscus). I am still healing from that but I keep pushing play. There are only a few movements that still give me pain so I find an alternative. I am glad I got off my butt and pushed play.
