2008 has been a year of growth and amazing blessings for me and my husband. We both, however, have neglected our physical growth and, with demanding, full time jobs, our diets have taken a hit too. Since recently embarking into a new decade...our 30's (eek!), we have noticed that it's not so easy to maintain an athletic physique anymore. As an engineer for NASA, I believe I have the coolest job
As an engineer for NASA, I believe I have the coolest job in the world! But, helping to send humans into space requires more brain power than it does physical strength. Needless to say, my job is 100% sedentary and especially stressful much of the time. I have battled with heart palpitations off and on and back alignment issues requiring chiropractic care, which have both been attributed to stress and lack of exercise. With an active lifestyle and busy schedule outside of work, it has been difficult for me to be consistent with any exercise routine.
As far as diet goes…well…let’s just say that, after growing up in the South (Tennessee and Alabama) and now living in Texas, I come from a long line of Southern Hospitality with everything done BIG. My favorite place is the grocery store, my favorite channel on TV is the Food Network and I even have a side business baking and decorating cakes for people. I have a passion for cooking and baking. Although that may sound like I’m doomed, I enjoy trying new foods and creating well-balanced meals. I need help with porportioning my my meals correctly as well as curbing my oh-so-active sweet tooth.
A lot of time over the past several years has been spent conditioning and growing the mental, emotional and spiritual side of me, and I now believe it is time to also focus on the physical. I was inspired to make the change when I literally watched a P90X transformation happen before my very eyes in my coworker Jerry. A year and a half later, "Coach Jerry" (a.k.a. dirigo) is supporting my husband and me in our own P90X journey. We are looking forward to not just making this commitment for 90 days but for making a commitment to change our lifestyles permanently for the better!
