I'm a mother of two sons, grandmother of 3. I've been a professional hairdresser for 19 years and enjoy the challenges of haircolor most of all. My hobbies include fishing, kayaking (new hobby), relaxing/exercising in the pool (not near often enough), reading, writing, oil painting, and nature walks. I've never been more than 20 or 30 lbs overweight, except when pregnant... though the past 10 years has me hanging around the 150 mark. One year ago, I'd been in the best shape in years due to a divorce and exercising every night to vent stress, eating only what and when I was hungry. Then I met my sweetie and the weight started creeping back up. I hardly ever exercised and went out to dinner often. By the time this spring arrived, I'd gone from a nice comfortable size 10, to an uncomfortably snug size 12. The scales have been bouncing up to 166 and down to 155 in recent months and I'm pretty frustrated about it. It's time to get ahold of my physical health because it affects my mental self-confidance.

I bought this swimming suit last summer, after I'd only ust started gaining weight, but I gained even more over the winter months. This is the bathing suit I want to look good in one day. That's why I used it for my before pic, even though it is obviously wayyy too small right now.
The reality check for me was two days after I joined this site. On day one I'd taken my "before" pics. Two days later, when contemplating which pic to post was when I REALLY looked at my image. I almost cried. The image didn't reflect the person I was on the inside. I was happy in my heart and soul. The image told a lie. I had become lazy. I determined that I wanted the outside to reflect the inside happiness I felt... the person I truly am... happy, energetic, playful.
Day 1 thoughts... I've been 15 lbs overweight the past 5 or 6 years. Ideally, my weight should be @135. I'm up to 166 now. That's 31 lbs overweight! In the past, when I'm under stress, I exercise to vent. My life is calm, peaceful and I'm in a happy relationship so I have no excess stress to get rid of. I work a sedentary job, pretty much just standing or walking back and forth in a small room. When I get home from work, there is someone there... and I don't feel comfortable working out in front of people, and my treadmill is loud. I often work long hours, so when I get home I just want to get off my feet. I've just gotten a kayak a couple of months ago and it's good exercise, but I can only get out in it @ 3 times a month. Sometimes I get on my treadmill in the mornings, but irregularly... several days in a row, then not for a few weeks. Don't have much of a sweet-tooth but occasionally have junk food (meaning: chips/cookies/cakes/lunchmeats/breads). I can't stand monotony and don't like having the same foods every day. I enjoy variety. I'd rather eat something that will satisfy me and be a decent portion than to eat a "diet" frozen meal or drink that will leave me hungry an hour later. My biggest reason for the shape I'm in now is because of lack of exercise. Generally, I eat pretty healthy... enjoying a variety of veggies and meats. I often skip breakfast. I hardly ever have fried foods, and when I do have fried meats I will almost always peel the skin/crust off and just eat the meat. I guess these little things has kept me from being any larger than I have been.
Future plans???... To lose @30 lbs and get in better health by incorporating some form of exercise into a daily habit. To be more attentive to healthy dietary choices. To feel confidant of my physical appearance. To reduce and/or eliminate cellulite.
2 weeks later: Been following the diet recommendations pretty closely, but not perfectly. Each morning I awake looking forward to finding out what the site suggests for my meals for the day. Over-ate this weekend and gained 2 of the 7 lbs I'd lost over the past two weeks. But that's ok... I'm back on track today.
After the first 30 days... It took some serious comparing to see any difference between the day 1 and day 30 pics as there's not much of an obvious difference yet. I knew they were there because my clothes have been fitting better and people have been telling me that I've lost weight. My tummy flab is no longer subject to the effects of gravity when I lie on my side and stays pretty much where it's supposed to be, and I've noticed that I have a bit more cleavage (woo-hoo, they're getting perkier)!
My biggest challenge so far has been trying to continue eating healthy during camping and kayaking trips, but my coach gave me some terrific ideas and suggestions for food-packing items.
It's now 2 months later. I struggle to see a difference in the before and present pics, but I finally do "see" that my skin is much more toned. I'm firming up! :) Yes, my tummy still pooches, but not so much now. And the bathing suite I started out with... well, it doesn't squeeze into me quite so much as it did 2 months ago. Yes, I'm totally embarrassed at these pics, but this is my honesty showing through. This is me, what I really look like. But I'm getting in better shape all the time. I'm getting stronger. The hardest thing for me is keeping motivated, to keep working out every day.
