I never know what to write in these things. I'm 43, happily married with no kids and 3 cats. I work as a public safety officer at the local university and attend graduate school, working towards a Masters in Social work. My favorite activities with my wife are medieval re-creation events, biking and reading. Graduation comes in a year and I'd rather be in shape when that happens rather than I never know what to write in these things. I'm 43, happily married with no kids and 3 cats. How did I get into Beachbody and Power90? I was on drugs. Ok, not exactly. I was in the emergency room one day for an unpleasant issue. They eventually let me go home to continue my recovery but sent along some pain killers while I was recovering.
The morning after they discharged me I was sitting on the couch feeling very out of touch with the world (thank you Darvocet). I remember catching part of the Power90 infomercial and thinking "Hey, those people look like they're having fun". Then the low price intro offer flashed on the screen. Next thing I know I'm talking to an operator ordering an exercise DVD.
The next day I was not on my pain meds and I started to realize what I'd done, though it was kind of hazy but it still seemed like a good idea. I’d been thinking about going back to the gym to start a regular exercise program but this was going to be less expensive and much more convenient. What did I have to lose? It turns out I had a lot to lose; Body fat, embarrassment at working out in front of a television, body image issues that I didn’t even know I had, a couple more inches off my waistline. Yeah, I had a lot to lose and I have so enjoyed losing all of it!
I’d managed to start getting control of my weight several months before I found Power90 but I was not doing any regular exercise. I was active but I didn’t feel like I was in reasonable shape. Certainly not the shape I wanted to be in for all the activities I wanted to do. The concept of following a workout on television just never seemed right to me but I liked what I read in the documentation that came with the disks and figured I’d give it a try and see. I couldn't get enough of Power90. It was one of the high points of my day, even when it left me a quivering pile of exhaustion on the floor. I loved every minute of it. Tony Horton and “the kids” are inspiring and great to follow along with. The workouts were everything I’ve been looking for. After beginning to see and feel the differences Power90 was making in my body and mind I lost all embarrassment about following along on the TV.
Flash forward two and a half years. I roller-coastered my fitness goals for a while. Buying a house and starting graduate school have had a major impact on my life and time. I got back into the swing of things with Power90 Master series and had a great time with it. Then a shoulder injury took me out of any upper body work for some time. Physical therapy and some time resolved that, just in time for my Christmas present to arrive: P90X. New results will be coming over the next few months.
My thanks go out to Beachbody/MDB, Tony Horton, “the kids” and all the fabulous, inspiring people I’ve met on the message boards.
Together we can all succeed!
Progress report In my first round through Power 90 I went through a period of time where I felt like I would always maintain my workout routines. It was as much a part of my day as breakfast and bedtime. I then was smacked in the face by some life issues: A new home, some job issues and going back to school all compounded to break me of workout patterns. This went on for close to a year. When things started to lighten up and realized I'd stopped working out at all and suddenly realized I missed it. It's hard to start up again, very hard. I picked up the Power 90 Master and the Fast 10 routines. After a couple more months I put together a plan. In the end I'm the only one I'm accountable to and I've re-discovered my motivation and the fun of exercising. The Beachbody exercise plans are again in important part of my daily life. Seeing how easy it is to let this slide I am better prepared to the long haul now. Stay tuned for further developments and keep pushing play!
