As a kid I was always active, played sports in high school and never really gave my weight much thought until one day in my mid-20’s I ripped out my pants at work! The weight had crept up so slowly More ...
As a kid I was always active, played sports in high school and never really gave my weight much thought until one day in my mid-20’s I ripped out my pants at work! The weight had crept up so slowly that I hadn’t really noticed it. I started going to aerobics classes two to three days a week and basically maintained. It wasn’t until a new instructor came that I really started getting into shape. She took the time to work one-on-one with us, took body fat measurements, helped us set goals, and encouraged me to start weight lifting and jogging. Not only did I fall in love with weight lifting, but I lost body fat and got into great shape! The more I learned about fitness the more I wanted to know, so I went back to college and got my degree in exercise physiology/exercise science. After graduation I became a certified health fitness instructor as well as a personal trainer. I began working at a hospital-owned fitness center and worked with cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients as well. This was the first job that I truly enjoyed and it was fulfilling. I was helping others to make positive life changes and improve their health and fitness levels.

It was during this busy time that my workouts began falling behind. After my daughter was born I stayed at home and worked only as needed (PRN). I went to a local gym three or four days a week, but spent more time visiting and giving advice than I did working out. It got worse after my son was born and my time was spread between the two kids. That was my excuse for not working out more. But I was feeling like a hypocrite preaching one thing, while not following my own advice!

In the spring of 2007 I decided that enough was enough! I began jogging again and a good friend of mine, lburns, encouraged me to join her in a healthy eating plan as an accountability buddy. Then another good friend of mine, KimberlyM, told me that she was the April Million Dollar Body $10,000 winner (BTW - she went on to win the $250,000 grand prize in March 2008!!). I had never heard of Beachbody! Kim introduced me to the P90 series and it breathed new life into my hum-drum, same ol’-same ol’ weight lifting routine. I would never have dreamed that such effective resistance training could be on DVD. I was impressed! I fell in love with weight lifting all over again. Thank you Beach Body and Tony Horton!! Now I enjoy working out to ChaLEAN Extreme, P90X, Turbo Jam, and so many of the other great workouts from Team Beachbody.
