I'm a 47 year old married mother or 4, two married and gone and two still at home. I have a son who just turned 30 (oh my how did that ever happen!) and three daughters, Kalina who is 27, Alisha 16, and Malia who will be 12 in about a month.
I currently weigh 208 pounds, although I finally got below that "magic" 200 pound mark about 2 months ago, I was so excited, yet here I am again trying to I'm a 47 year old married mother or 4, two married and gone and two still at home. I currently weigh 208 pounds, although I finally got below that "magic" 200 pound mark about 2 months ago, I was so excited, yet here I am again trying to get back there.
About 4 years ago I reached my highest weight at about 250, I say "about" because I had convinced myself that I was beautiful no matter what I weighed and it didn't matter what the scale said. I was shocked when I found out what it "really" was. So I started hiking and walking more, my sister and I walked 3 miles, about 4-5 times a week and the weight started coming off. I also LOVE to hike, and live in the Beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, full of over 100 miles of gorgeous hiking trails just minutes from my door.
I wasn't always overweight, in high school I weighed 115 until I had my son, and then I lost that "baby" weight right away. When I became pregnant with my oldest daughter I gained 65 pounds during the pregnancy, and never quite lost those last 20 pounds. So I weighed about 135-140 in the early 1980's.....then slowly gained until I topped off at about 175 pounds. My husband at that time, left me telling me I was too fat. Needless to say I couldn't even look at food and within 2 months had lost back down to 125 pounds, eating next to nothing. NOT a healthy way to lose weight, starvation and stress.
When I met my current husband Mike, I weighed 130 pounds, and started immediately doing my "happy" eating. Or maybe I just wanted him to PROVE he really loved ME, and wouldn't leave me if I gained weight. When we had our two daughters I weighed about 195 pounds when I got pregnant with them and stuck around 210 afterwards, and then just slowly kept creeping up the scale. He still loves me no matter what, we've been married 21 years now....my the time sure flies!
I've always liked to hike but don't do it nearly enough, or consistently to keep up with weight loss until a few years ago. I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes in February of this year. I've been trying to learn how to manage my medication and diet and exercise, it's been such an interesting year! It seems carbs are my enemy as is sugar and lack of activity. So it's lots of veggies, not too many fruits and proteins. I walk everyday on my break at work 1 mile, but haven't been getting enough after work exercise in lately, hence the 11 pounds I've gained back of what I'd lost.....

I plan on finally breaking that 200 pound barrier and staying there soon! I've lost 44 pounds so far in the last 3 years and will never go back to that weight. I have type2 diabetes, and high blood pressure, so this is REALLY for my health as much as how I look. I've basically lost the weight I have so far just by walking, since Feb 2007 I've walked over 200 miles.
