When I was in high school I was 5'06" 225 pounds. After graduating I went into the military and came out of boot camp at 6'0" 175 pounds. So I know what it's like to be picked on and overweight! Over the years my weight has fluctuated but remained around 175. I always tried to remain active but never really got the concept of eating properly. My eating habits were horrible to say the least! I wasn't a big mac, candy and ice cream kind of guy. I just didn't eat correctly. I would skip breakfast, maybe have lunch and then eat way too much at supper; which was usually late and right before bed. My youth and my type A personality however, kept me thin.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with cancer. I'm one of the lucky ones! My doctors caught it in time and with a couple of surgeries and treatments I was "clean". I gotta tell you man, when a doctor sits across from you and says "Mike, you have cancer" you develop a different outlook on life. Suddenly, I wasn't in such a hurry to work and be busy all the time. I decided to slow down and to enjoy life. And "Enjoy" life I did! A little too much!

All those meals I skipped when I was younger were quickly made up for. I didn't miss a chance to get an ice cream with my nieces and nephews or several beers with friends or go for that second and third helping at a meal. My new life left me with a newer and much bigger waist size and 20 something extra pounds!

I tried going back to the gym but I was bored with the workouts I had done all those years. I tried to run like I used to but my back was aching. My back ached because I was running and I was running because I was out of shape. It was a vicious cycle. Every morning I was waking up aching and worrying about my clothes fitting too tightly and the fact that summer was coming and I was in really bad physical shape! I found myself depressed at the thought of the physical appearance of my body. I was disgusted with my inability to motivate myself and to get out from under that lazy rock! I started to feel like that kid way back in high school at 5'6" 225 pounds! I felt like I was just going to have to go out and buy bigger clothes and blame the inability to lose weight on being 40 and "older".

Then I saw P90X and Tony Horton on TV. I thought it looked cool but there was no way I was going to be one of those "losers" that buys from an infomercial and wastes his money! I quickly dismissed the idea as foolish and not worthy of my time. A few days later I was sitting around (which had become the norm) and I saw it again. Something was different about it. Core work, muscle confusion and real people who were achieving real goals. I've heard of muscle confusion and practiced it a little in the gym with varying routines but never like that! So I said, "what the heck! If they can do it so can I!"

I logged onto www.beachbody.com, ordered P90X, the bands and a chin up bar and set my start date. March 17th. I remember getting home a couple of days later and seeing the box on my doorstep. I still had the resolve to be healthier and happier. I devoured the information in the eating guide, the exercise guide and I joined the message boards on beachbody.com. I found a post called "Start with me 3/17/2008". I was definitely nervous about "talking" with people I didn't know but I started posting anyway. Here we are months later and those 3/17er's are my friends! That crazy group of P90Xer's and I swapped out pictures, good stories and bad, and kept each other going. At first we were talking about how little we could keep up and pretty soon, bragging about how we could hang with the entire work out. We were accountable to each other and I looked forward to reading each of their stories as it carried me through to the next day of pushing play.

If I had a question I emailed my coach and got the answers. The coaches, like me, are here to prove to you that you can do it and to be there for you when you're feeling down or confused or like you just want to give up. We want you to feel healthy, happy and in control of your life again!

My life has changed! P90X works! I'm here for you! Email me..IM me just reach out and chat about it. You can do it and we can do it together!
