Indianapolis, IN My life was changed forever on March 30th, 2010. That was the day that my beautiful daughter, Lily, was born. One look at my precious little girl, and I knew I wanted to give her the best life possible, but it wasn’t long before I realized that meant more than keeping her fed and clothed and sheltered and loved…it meant taking care of myself. It meant setting a good example. As a mother it’s up to me to show my daughter the best possible example of what it means to be a strong, healthy, happy, confident woman. I have struggled with my weight for the last 10 years, peaking at a little over 250 lbs in 2005. After being diagnosed with a genetic disorder called PCOS, I was prescribed medications, told to follow a strict diet and given a series of warnings about the seriousness of my condition. The doctor informed me that, while there is no cure for PCOS, losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle would go a long way towards easing the symptoms. After making some serious changes to my diet and adding some exercise to my daily routine, I dropped 80 pounds! I was able to maintain that loss until my pregnancy. While I was pregnant, I tried not to obsess about my weight, but as the numbers crept up on the scale, I was increasingly upset. After I reached 200 lbs (a number I had sworn I would never see on the scale again), I stopped weighing altogether. The day my daughter was born, I weighed in at 221 lbs and even in the joy of becoming a mother…I had feelings of disappointment in myself for gaining that much weight. For the first few weeks after having my daughter, I was extremely hypercritical of my body. I was tired, depressed and discouraged. I had worked so hard to lose weight and now it seemed like I was right back where I started! But I began to understand that by being so hard on myself…I would only be teaching my daughter to be the same way. Who was I kidding…I’d just had a BABY! Of course I would have gained some weight…of course my body would look different afterward! After that little reality check, I decided that it was time to take control of the situation and take control of my health. I began my first round of P90X on June 1st, 2010. Within the first 30 days I had cut 6 inches off my waist and 4 inches off my hips! It will take time to reach the goals I’ve set, but with every workout I feel stronger…not just physically, but emotionally. I’m committed to making fitness and good health a part of daily life. It’s made me a happier person, a better partner, better friend and a better mother. I KNOW it can do the same for you!! Make that change, believe in yourself…and you can do amazing things.
DECIDE. COMMITT. SUCCEED.
