Chesterfield, MO I was always the skinny kid in school, the one who would buy extra slim jean and they had to be taken in. At one point I had to go on a diet to "gain" weight. Then high school hit and I started to fill out, not horribly, still thin, but not skinny. Then in college it all went south (no offense to anyone south of St. Louis). Even tho I played racquetball every week and rode my bicycle around I was always the skinny kid in school, the one who would buy extra slim jean and they had to be taken in. At one point I had to go on a diet to "gain" weight. Then high school hit and I started to fill out, not horribly, still thin, but not skinny. Then in college it all went south (no offense to anyone south of St. Louis). Even tho I played racquetball every week and rode my bicycle around campus and elsewhere, I started to get the CompSci gut from too many hours in front of the terminal. Things really got bad when I moved out on my own.
At my worst (just a couple years ago) I was 206lbs. Now for most people that would be bad, but I'm only 5' 4" tall, so it was really bad. I had tried all sorts of diets and nothing much helped. I started working out and trying to watch what I ate and I managed to drop 40lbs in just over a year, but I still had virtually no upper body strength. And of course, when I slipped a little, I gained a lot. I went from 206 to 163 to 172. And then I saw an infomercial for P90X.
I watched the infomercial and at first took it like so many others, but then I noticed that the screen never said "Results not typical", which is the standard disclaimer. So, I took to the Net and did some checking and it seemed to be the real deal. I ordered it and off I went.
Unfortunately I didn't have the correct form and almost immediately overworked my left elbow and developed tendonitis. That ran rampant until about week 10 of round 1, then I had to stop. I went to the doctor, got a cortisone shot and was told to take it easy for a while. So, after about 6 weeks I started up Round 2 and started from scratch. I had started Round 1 at 172 and 23%BF, with the down time and not being able to do much (moving hurt my arm, not moving hurt my arm) I started Round 2 at 186 and 28%BF.
Today is humpday, Day 45. Tomorrow I'll take measurements and photos (I like start, 30 day, 45 day, 60 day and 90 day pics) and see where I stand. Last week when I got on the scale I had dropped to 182 and 25%BF, a fat loss of 6.58# and a gain of 2.58# muscle, for this round. We'll see what tomorrow holds...
My goal is to get a better defined body, something I've never had, and to drop back to a 30" pant. At my worst I approached 40", but kept squeezing into 38" because I refused to give into that reality.
As I learned long ago, "Commitment is not about the amount of time you spend, it's a line you cross."
