ME . . . I don't need any help, and I don't need anyone telling ME, how to do this. Yeah Right! In the beginning of 2007 I took a new position as Wellness Coordinator, implementing health & wellness programs for the corporate world. It was in more of an advisory role and a lot less active than what I was accustom to. This was quite different from my past positions. On top of it, I have to travel throughout the country quite a lot. I was still working out but finding it harder and harder to get to the gym on a regular basis. Being a father of two children ages 4 and 8, the oldest is autistic and has special needs, a new job, traveling made it really easy to get caught up with everyone else's demands. So here I was, the fitness guy as all my friends knew me, coaching youth sports for all my sons’ teams to help him. Also traveling all over the country helping others to learn how to be healthy. The whole time I am not getting enough sleep, eating crap, and not getting to the gym to workout. Some fitness guy I was, getting more unhealthy while helping everyone else. I was not able to practice what I was preaching. And was not the fitness guy everyone thought I was.
I realized in November of 07 that I was not making it to the gym at all and needed to make a change. I debated the P90X program for some time. I was too proud to admit that I needed help to workout. So one Sunday morning while I was watching the infomercial for what felt like the 50th time, my wife said "just order it already! And stop thinking about it!". So I thought what did I have to lose. I ordered it and cancelled my gym membership. What the heck I can always go back to the gym, after I see that this doesn't really work, is what I told myself.
I thought the people on the infomercial were probably the "these results are not typical" fine print people.
So I got my package and started the nutrition program right away. The following week is when I started the workouts. WOW! Was I surprised this was not going to be easy. The workouts were intense! I had been working out my whole life but I had to push myself through each workout. I also took the PRE P90X pictures of myself. WOW! I didn't realize how I really looked. Thank goodness for poor lighting in those hotel rooms I have been staying in.
P90X was it for me. It had all the aspects of a Fitness program that I wanted. Resistance, cardio, abs, and intensity!
From the beginning I knew I had to have a plan. I wasn't going to let travel get in my way. Right after my package arrived, I purchased the right weights, pull up bar, bands, mat, yoga block. That way I would have all the tools for success and no excuses. Next I would set my alarm clock for 5am every day. I do this even on rest days to stay in the pattern. This was not going to be easy. I had only worked out occasionally that early and was not a big fan of it. When the alarm goes off, I tell myself "just make the coffee,” after that everything just falls into place and by 5:30am I am bringing it. And now I am also supplementing and adding Ten Minute Trainers too. Wow are those good!
First I took my beginning stats. 20% Body Fat, I was never more 15% before, ouch!
Now I am just below 7% Body Fat and I am proud to say you can see my ABS!
I lost 18lbs of Fat and gained 15lbs of Muscle. Lost 5 inches around my waist(currently 27in., I always have to use a belt) and gained more than 2 inches on my arms. But most of all when I working and educating people now on Health and Wellness, I now am practicing what I preach.
