My real introduction to "good ol' fashioned" weight lifting and fitness started (of all days) on Sept. 10 2001. That's right.. The day before 9/11. I read the book "Body For Life" (version 1 I believe, they now have an updated book), but at the time I was ready to finally commit to a diet and exercise plan, all by myself. On day 2, I went for my first cardio "interval" training workout day, and when I got back, the first plane had hit the World Trade Center. This event changed a lot of lives, and I feel it was a huge change especially in terms of "energy" for the United States. That week was my first ever week of weight training, and slowly but surely, I actually found my way and improved my form with every week... I look back now, and marvel at the determination I had, without any trainer behind me.. just me, and that book. I finished the Body for Life, and stuck w/ my workouts pretty well up until August 2002. During that time, I made a switch up to Canada to study Fashion Design. I ended up getting a membership at the YMCA, and finally, a "trainer" who gave me my first "program" to follow for the next 4-6 weeks. Not that exciting really.. I ended up falling in and out of the gym, and decided it was too far out of the way for me to get there, so after moving apartments in Jan. '03, I joined a different gym. Close to my apartment, and very trendy. Complete w/ a spa & in-ground pool in the summer... I went through a handful of trainers, too many to list.. which all pretty much did the same thing. Charge me $50- to make a program for the next 4-6 weeks. I saw good results but never AWESOME results. During this time I was also diagnosed w/ scoliosis. My back pain comes and goes, and doesn't give me too much trouble since I try to stay pretty fit. Fast forward to 2007 - I got married... and the weight started to pile on. I tried to get back into the gym, but with no avail, another $300- "down the drain" for that annual membership. One day in Feb of '09, my husband and I were watching television, and we saw the infomercial for p90x. We were instantly sold, and called up to order it. We are heading into Phase 3 next week (Early April '09) and are excited to continue our "extreme home fitness" journey. Working out at home has changed my life, and I believe that I will NEVER go back to ANY gym, unless they pay me! Thanks to Beachbody, my husband and I are well on our way to being super fit, healthy of mind, body & spirit... Such a wonderful feeling!!
