My Beachbody journey began in 2004--the year I turned 25 graduated college (ok, so I took a little longer to finish than most, sue me!). My boyfriend and I were out to dinner with another couple and I couldn't get over the other woman's obvious, recent and what seemed to be incredibly rapid weight loss. When the woman excused herself to the ladies' room. I mentioned to her boyfriend how amazing she looked and asked what she was doing. He told me his girlfriend had lost about 20 pounds doing this "workout from TV." Faced with the possibility of graduating college a good 20 pounds heavier than I was when I started and not at all happy about it, I was intrigued and demanded he tell me more! It turned out the program his girlfriend did was Slim in 6. I went home and immediately looked up the information online. I placed my order that evening! After seeing the results my friend got, I didn't need much convincing. While I waited for my new workout program to arrive, I remember wondering how I got so heavy in such a short period of time. Growing up, I was always the skinny kid. Like, so skinny I was shiny because my skin was so taught. In high school, I had a part-time job at a fast food restaurant and would eat there sometimes twice a day. My favorite meal was a fried chicken sandwich smothered in marinara sauce with extra melted mozzarella cheese, onion rings and a cherry cola. I worked there for three years and never wore a size bigger than a 2--and sometimes that was big! I maintained my slim shape through most of college (yes, almost all 7 years of it) and for a long time I figured I was lucky--blessed with a lightening-fast metabolism with the power to neutralize whatever high-calorie, high-fat foods I took in. I never thought about what I ate and exercise was something I engaged in sporadically at best. I know it didn't happen overnight, but it really seemed like one day I woke up with 20 extra pounds and no idea where they came from. After all, I wasn't doing anything different than I had been doing the past 10 years!
I got started the day the package came. I couldn't believe how sore I was the next day--the workout was only about 25 minutes! As I progressed through the program the infomercials at the end of each workout got my attention and I began exploring the Message Boards. It was at the Boards that I discovered a virtual treasure chest of information and support! Through connections I made on the Boards, I found the motivation to keep pushing myself even though I wasn't getting the impressive results my friend did with Slim in 6.
I finished Slim in 6 about 9 pounds lighter than I started. Looking back, that was pretty good, but I was comparing myself to my friend who lost double that so I was not pleased. Next on my rotation was the Slim Series, and boy did that whip me into shape! I looked and felt incredible! I could not have been happier with my progress and those 20 pounds were history!
Then, life got in the way. To the tune of 30 pounds! This time I knew exactly where it came from--poor eating and almost no exercise.
I got back on the boards, rediscovered my motivation and ordered Turbo Jam, Fell in LOVE! From there I moved on to ChaLEAN Extreme, Brazil Butt Lift and now Turbo Fire. Though I've been working out consistently for more than a year now, I was until very recently, still struggling to lose the weight. Why? Because I figured working out all the time entitled me to loosen up on the diet. WRONG! There is no "cheating the system."
This past year, I really began to utilize my coach. And as she will tell you, it hasn't been easy, but she and her wonderful team have helped me see the impact balanced nutrition has on your fitness. I am still a work in progress, but since embracing the clean eating philosophy (at least 90% of the time) I have noticed not only a difference in the way I look, but also in the way feel.
