Moody, TX I'm 39 years old with no kids, married and trying to get fit, tone up and lose weight. I want those 6 pack abs. I've never had toned abs even when I was at my skinniest! :D It's my goal before I turn 40! Can I do it? We'll just have to see.

The first time I went to Iraq I gained some weight from all the food & desserts that were at the Dining Facility (DFac). Basically, it was just a huge buffet of everything you can think of. Well, my clothes started to get tighter and being in Iraq I don't have the convenience of being able to buy clothing so I decided to start going to the gym & watching what I was eating. I ate breakfast, worked out right before lunch, ate lunch and had a light dinner every night. I started to drop the weight very fast, but I wasn't really toning up. I mostly did cardio, ab workouts and stretching. I got down to 120 lbs. When I came back home. I tried to keep working out but that didn't last very long and I slowly started to gain weight again.
Right before I was deployed back to Iraq (again), I had to take a physical and get lab work done. Now I know why I lost so much weight so quickly...
I was diagnosed with a hyper-active thyroid in 2008. I thought "cool!". I wondered why I was able to snack on junk food for the past few years and never really gained any weight. I was prescribed an anti-thyroid drug (ATD) to slow my thyroid down (many bad things can happen if left alone). Because of the ATD, it slowed my metabolism down and I was gaining weight. I was quite upset when I found that out. Before then, I was able to work out and eat what I wanted and still lose weight. Well, I was deployed to Iraq later that year in 2008. By then, I had went from 125 lbs to 140 lbs in those few months after starting my anti-thyroid drug. Not to mention, while I was in Iraq I started a very bad habit of smoking. The last couple of months in Iraq, I actually started to work out (and even quit smoking). I was jogging, and doing some weight lifting and abdominal workouts, but it was slow going. I had lost 6 lbs in 2 months. To say the least, I was disappointed. When I got back home, I tried to keep working out, but that only lasted for another month. And I could not kick the smoking habit.
It has been 1 year and 4 months since I got back from Iraq. I had gained the 6 lbs I had lost and then some. I knew I had to do something and I knew I had to quit smoking (again). I went cold turkey August 14 2010, and started to walk/jog on our treadmill the next day.
I saw the informercial for Insanity while on the treadmill one day and so now begins my journey. ^_^
Started Insanity - 13 Sept 2010 Height - 5'4" Weight - 142 Pant size - 7/8 (sometimes 5/6 - depends on manufacturer LOL) Chest - 36" I didn't get any other measurements.
I hope to get my husband motivated to start working out with me. He tells me almost every day how out of shape he is. :/ Well, chop-chop, bali-bali, Honey! ;)
**UPDATE*** I finished Insanity Nov 14, 2010. Got down to 131 lbs and all my pants fit loosely now. I haven't gotten any measurements yet. I will be starting Turbo Fire soon and hopefully, I will be able to lose the last 6 lbs and tone up even more.
I started P90X (I can't stand to sit still for too long - addicted to Insanity now), but don't plan to fully start it until after TF I'm not into weight lifting as much as I am into cardio. I'm hoping I don't get bored with P90X.
I start TF on Dec 6th with a couple buddies I met on the message boards. :D
**UPDATE #2** 16 Feb 2011 On week 11 of Turbo Fire and week 5 of P90X. I am down to 123 - 127 lbs so I have reached my weight goal, but now I just have to tone up and get some of this extra belly fat dwindled down (if I can). That sure is some stubborn fat! LOL!
Update#3 - Finished TF 26 Feb 2011.
Update#4 - While doing TF, I also incorporated P90X (about a month into it) so I was actually doing a hybrid. Adding the resistance and weight training helped a lot to tone up even more. I got down to 123 lbs after finishing P90X.
Then I started the Asylum (April 21, 2011). I finished that on May 25th and got the shirt! After about 2 weeks of rest & 1 week of Insanity, I will be starting the P90X/Asylum hybrid on the 15th of June. This'll be interesting. :D
