Hillsboro, WI I felt that I have really been an athlete all my life and have been active and healthy. I played basketball, biked, hiked, etc. However, around age 30, I was eating the same way and pounds were creeping on. Then in 2003 I moved back to my family farm and started an organic dairy and orchard with my husband. After that I had 2 kids and my husband and I began taking care of my elderly parents. So I felt that I have really been an athlete all my life and have been active and healthy. Then in 2003 I moved back to my family farm and started an organic dairy and orchard with my husband. After that I had 2 kids and my husband and I began taking care of my elderly parents. So the last few years have been kind of tough and the athlete in me faded.
Through the stress of the last few years, I never set myself up for committing nor remembering how good it felt to be fit. Plus I fostered a tough mentality that as a farm girl, if there was energy to be spent, I had better spend it building a fence or doing a million other tasks that need to be done on the farm. And I would sometimes see people around my home jogging etc. and I thought, "If you have got energy for that, come work on MY farm for a day." Well for me, I did and do work hard, but I found myself getting injuries. Then it dawned on me this year, the year I turned 40, that I may be working hard and spending a lot of energy on the farm, but it is not balanced necessarily. I realized that I was not all-around fit and that I need TO BE fit to do the farm work and not get injuries, and enjoy what I do more. We are a grazing dairy so we are outside hiking and working on the pasture and fields a lot. I want to really enjoy that.
This year I want to be a turning point and this is something just for me; and I already feel better about myself and see a change. I have been doing P90X since Feb 23, 2010 and before that I did the stepper, cross country skied, and lifted weights to get prepared. My routine is a little different than most on the program, I would think. As our farm schedule changes over the season, I have not been able to follow the daily plan exactly. Some days I cannot do the scheduled workout at all. I try to keep that to a minimum. I squeeze it in as best as I can. But even with challenging days, I keep pressing play.
