I have struggled with my weight all my life, but that's not the reason I'm doing this. I've been called fat, and I've been looked over because of my size, but that's not why either. I'm not even doing this because I had to get an extension on the airplane seatbelt when I flew to New York 2 years ago, which was one of the most embarassing moments in my life. No, I'm not doing it because my #1 priority is to be hot and have a sexy "beach body", although hopefully that will be a perk.
I'm losing weight because my mom went to the hospital for the flu. She has diabetes, and the doctor told her that they had to keep her 3 days because her glucose level would not go under 220 (the norm is 110). In fact, it hadn't gone under that for 2 years. She complained that her eyesight was bad and her feet tingled at the end of the day. These were signs that she was feeling the long-term effects of diabetes, and pretty soon she would not be able to reverse those effects. I have seen many people who have lost limbs, increased the risk of heart attack and died because of diabetes, so I told her that when I have children, I want her to know them, and at the rate she was going, she'd never meet them. On friday, August 21st, 2009, I told her that I would be at her house at 6 am, with ChaLEAN Extreme and we would start the videos.
I was true to my word, and that day she grumbled and complained, and sweat dripped down my back and face and we huffed and puffed, but with good diet and exercise, the next day her glucose level went from 220 to 188. The next day, 166. the next day, 145. the next, 129. After a week, she was at 119, which is the target range for glucose levels. 2 years of taking medication and she hadn't been under 200. 1 week of ChaLEAN and she's in her target range, and has also lost 7 lbs. Needless to say, we will keep going.
To date, a week and a day after we started, I weigh 286, which is a 12 lb difference, and I am ready to change my own life. Diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure all run in my family. I'm ready to get myself to the point where I never have to worry about any of them. I am 22, my mom is 48. But together, we are going to change our lives, so that we may survive.
