I have always displayed interest and some action in fitness, but mainly it was to impress other people and to feel accepted. Those motives took me down a path that I shouldn't have traveled. Wanting to be accepted influenced me to drink and do drugs. Turns out, I have an addictive personality; therefore I used drugs heavily and eventually I was using alone or with anybody who would join with me. I wanted to die. Thankfully, but without any acknowledgment of God, I moved to a different state shortly after my life fell apart and I was able to kick my addiction. But that doesn't mean I didn't pick up another vice. I did. Fast forward a few years, and I found myself working front desk at possibly the biggest gym franchise in the world. (Out of respect for the organization I won't say which one.) To get straight to the point, I was introduced to steroids. I was 135-140 lbs. when I started, and over the course of nearly 3 years, I was at 181 and looked like a miniature bodybuilder. I was able to impress quite a few women in the bars and clubs, and I felt on top of the world. But the negative consequences surpassed all the irrationally thought out positive ones. Life came tumbling down again. I hurt all those that cared about me, I ended up in jail a few times, I womanized, and I became a person that only cared about himself. Although I did these awful things, I came to know my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through my path of destruction. He saved me from myself, and He save me from eternal hell. My life has been bought at a high price, and I boast not in myself, but only in Him. Over the last 3 years, through God's grace and mercy, I have recovered from my horrific lifestyle. I stopped using steroids, and I stopped trying to be a bodybuilder. I have lost nearly all my size and definition that I "gained", but I had to come to terms that this body is on loan to me, and I must take care of what has been given to me as a gift. It feels good to look good at the beach. I don't believe there is anything wrong with wanting to feel good about yourself, as long as one remains humble. I would love to look like I did in the past, but naturally this time. That may take 5 years to complete (if I decided to pursue those goals), or it may never happen. Either way, I'm fine. My number one priority is to honor Christ, help spread the gospel to save souls through His word, to take the best possible care of myself as I can, and to remind the world that true beauty- attractiveness and sexiness (in an honoring way)- comes from the heart and soul. If God is in your heart, and you have accepted His design for your life, and His love for you, then you can't help but to be attractive to those around you. When that happens, we learn to be content with what we have, we yearn for perfection, and we rest in God's grace when we don't meet His standard of perfection (which is pretty much every second of our lives). My life has been hard, and I know that many other lives- maybe even the majority- have been and/or still are harder than mine ever was, is, or will ever be. But the Father created this world for His glory, and substitued Jesus Christ's death for our if we chose to accept his gift, and then we are blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit to live out through us, ultimately showing Christ to the world. That is what witnessing is. That is what Christianity is about- it's about love. I would like to apologize to all those that have been burned by the church, or have been deeply hurt and rejected by professing Christians. In their defense (and I am giving benefit of the doubt, b/c I know that I have fallen into this unintentionally), it can be fairly easy to slip into religion and legalisim; therefore causing us to become bitter and robbed of our joy. If this sort of thing continues, one or many can be extrememly judgemental, resulting in a hypocritical and self-righteous gospel, ultimately giving all Christians the label of hypocrytes. Christians, we have to remember that we are save by grace alone, and that we are all sinners (hence my screen name) in need of a savior. Our life is not meant to hurt and judge people. We are meant to spread the good news and to love other people through service and sacrifice, while all the glory goes to Him. Being blessed with the opportunity to be a Team BeachBody coach allows me to help other people around the world become physically active, leading to a positive self image and self worth. I was a 130lb senior in high school who wanted to look like a star football player, but did not have the dedication. 2 years after high school, I started working at Gold's Gym and was able to go from 140lbs to 181 in three years from heavy lifting. However, I did it all the wrong way. I may have looked healthy, but I would have failed a physical fitness test. In 2009, I got into a serious relationship and decided to spend time with her instead of going to the gym every night. I dropped all the way down to 153lbs. It was depressing. I wanted to look the way I did when I met her, and that obsession robbed me of an enjoyable relationship. We split on New Years of 2011. Shame on me for thinking that looks were most important. God does not want us worrying about the way we look; but He does want us to take care of ourselves, because our bodies are leased to us. We use what He has blessed us with to show others His glory. I want to be healthy. I want to be able to play any sport and not have my poor stamina take me out of the competition. In an emergency situation, I want to be able to help anybody in need and not have to think that I COULD have saved their life if I was in better shape. But, I cannot act like I do not care at all about the way I look- of course I do. I just have to make sure to remind myself of what is most important. I want my wife (when I meet her) to be happy with the way her husband wants to take care of himself, wants others to feel good about themselves, and you know, like the way he looks too. Brad Pitt: watch out. Everyone who wants to take control of their lives in the area of health and fitness, let's do this together. If we want to be successful, we have to surround ourselves with successful people. With technology today, we can share the experience from allover the world. | Please sign in to flag this as inappropriate.
