I am a Group fitness instructor, personal trainer, Spin instructor and enthusiast, and nutritionist. I have a very supportive husband who actively participates in all components of fitness. My 2, very active, golden retrievers also keep me involved in my daily fitness protocol. My family are close by, with many friends who understanding and know my passion to help anyone wanting to know more about a well-balanced-fitness program.
For more than 30 years, I have been quite involved in fitness programs. I played sports in my childhood years and participated in gymnastic programs. At 16 I was taking fitness classes, at 20 years I was a serious weight lifter and Aerobic instructor, at age 25, I became, what they would call a gym rat.
After moving to Arizona at the age 30, I decided to change professions as an accountant, to a fitness enthusiast and become certified as profession personal trainer and nutritionist. And that I did!
This led to a position as personal trainer for a local fitness club. It was Bally Total Fitness! After two months, I became top personal trainer, in seven clubs, for 2 years.
At age 33 I broke away from the so called gym franchise and managed a personal training studio. I now had trainers working for me. Our training was not just about body conditioning, but it incorporated the education process and all the components of a complete and balanced fitness program; helping people with weight and cardio programs, as well as developing and educating on daily nutritional requirements. Our philosophy was to help people manage a well balance fitness program and to help find ways to make it apart of their life style.
At age 35, I went into business for myself. My business "The Schurrfit Way" entered the industry thru many avenues. My guarantee to the public was to "getfit" The Schurrfit Way! I tagged the corporate environment market, I went to various gyms for group fitness classes and one on one personal training. I entered peoples homes for in home sessions. I even assisted clients with their nutritional programs and took them on "grocery shopping" "field trips". A healthy fitness program was important to me. I wanted to help, educate, motivated and train people, as many struggled w/ exercise programs.
My clientele included de-conditioned people, fitness go-getters who were wanting to move to their next fitness level, or simply very enthusiastic clients who could never get enough, even individuals who wanted to enter fitness competitions.
My business grew for many years...at age 40, I decided to move back to East coast to be with my family.
Upon returning, I found that fitness was not like it was in the Western part of the USA. People were a little more reluctant about going to gyms or even understanding the importance of a life long commitment in a healthy fitness program. So where did I go from here?
I could continue on with personal training and group fitness classes in hopes that there would be more enthusiasm and involvement in years to come. Or......
Consulting? Why not!
I could assist business owners who knew very little about the components of fitness, but knew they wanted to tap into the, now on the rise, fitness industry. And so that is what I did.
At age 40, I assisted two local clubs, different time frames, in setting the ambiance and layout of their fitness facility. I then assisted them in establishing fitness programs and conditional training and nutrition programs.
In both of these facilities I instructed and train members in all areas of their fitness program. I taught classes, I performed group and one/one training sessions, and assisted them in implementing a nutritional meal program.
After being here, on the East coast, for three years, I was not totally convinced that people in the East are truly committed to a well balanced fitness program. I needed to find another route to make people understand that just committing a few minutes a day to a fitness and wellness program can only add years to your life.
During the 3rd year of being here I met a very fit and so supportive and encouraging man, my husband. Dave and I have spend most of the last years cycle training and weight lifting. during that time I continued with my gym routine by teaching group fitness and spin classes, as well as one-on-one training sessions. I have also returned back into the accounting profession.
Still this didn't seem to be enough. My motivation and determination in reaching out to help others understand how a fitness program could be the most precious tool to living a more healthy longer life, was still my top priority. I needed to find a different avenue.
At the beginning of this year, 2009, my husband saw the infomercial for P90X. His interest in this was oh so talked about. My response was that in all the years I have been involved in fitness, there was no DVD / CD program out there that would give you the ultimate results than cross training at a gym with group fitness programs, weight bearing machines, cables and free weights.
After a few months of investigating the program, I didn't want to tell him, but he was on to something. I research the Beachbody.com website and could not believe what I was finding. Fitness programs galore! People everywhere doing the same programs, nutritional guidelines and tools to developed your own personal meal plans, and coaches there to help thru every step of the way. WOW!
And so here I am....
Six months later, taking on two rounds of P90X and now onto Charlene Extreme, I can only say Beach Body is the most "POWERFUL" tool for maintaining a complete, balanced and obtainable fitness program

March 1 2009 was the turning point not only to the start of my fitness goals, but it is the start of what could be the best find in my fitness encounters.
We were already in great fitness shape but we wanted to move to our next level. We started with the P90x Doubles program. We followed every exercise program in each months protocal. I calculated our nutritional requirements and prepared our daily meals plans.
We were very true to our 90 day program. I couldn't belive that an in home DVD programs could motivate you the way that it did. We could not get enough.
We reached our goal!
On the return of out trip, after adding back a few more pounds, we couldn't wait to start the P90X program again. I am now in week 11, and I have been able to maintain my ideal weight.
I never thought a program like this, or even any other, would be better than lifing at the gym.
I am now ready for the next level/phase...P90X +
