Throughout my entire adulthood I thought I was in good shape. The fact is I
was not.

I have had serious back issues since my late teens when I was injured lifting a
waxing machine up a flight of stairs. From that point on it was a continuous
battle trying to stay fit and active without have a back “episode”. As a result,
playing most sports and physical activities stopped. I tried to focus on
building my back strength while working through day-to-day pain. Those
who have ever suffered from back issues know the simplest thing can put you
over the edge and into that humbling position of pain and debilitation. So I
faithfully did my sit-ups and what I considered stretching for many years,
always guarding against the next incident. Because of my limited activity in
combination with my constant traveling for work, I gradually gained weight
over the years. The additional 25 pounds also aggravated my back issues.

Then a bomb fell. Not on me, but on my brother. My brother had a heart
attack at age 53 just as my Dad had. This really opened my eyes and as a
result I started to really think about my genetic make up and when it would
be my “turn”.

When my brother (“Xrayman”) started working out to a program he bought
from an infomercial I was skeptical. I admit I was wrong. I recall it was at an
Easter Sunday dinner when I first saw the start of my brother’s
transformation
and it amazed me. Over a very short period of time it was as if a new person
had emerged, not just with his physical changes but also with a new life-
style. Eating healthy, exercising everyday, he was focused on his health,
committed to beat down the effect of his heart attack on and as I watched I
was inspired.

I realized that I needed to address my limitations and genetic pre-
dispositions by being proactive and more aggressive in taking charge of my
heath, life and destiny. At 185 lbs with 27% body fat and a 36” waist I was
the biggest (and heaviest) I had ever been and it needed to change. I
followed the same course my brother did. I started Power 90 in April 2004
and by day 90 I had lost 16 lbs and 2 inches from my waist and I reduced my
body fat to 19%. Continuing on, I started P90X and things changed
amazingly. My waist is a comfortable 32”, my weight is steady at 163 lbs
and I have had substantial gain in muscle mass. My body fat is at 9%. I
have since completed multiple rounds of P90X , P90X Plus , Master Series over
the
past three years and I am continually challenging myself to do all
things athletic . Also will complete my first round of P90X+ at the end of this
month. WoW intense !! My back pain is nearly insignificant and I am more
flexible
and agile than I ever have been. One of the great things about these
programs is they travel well. I have taken my workout dvds all over the world
and have been able to keep up my intensity and commitment in nearly every
time zone!
I will be turned 58 in October of 2008 and completed a 6th round of P90X
and starting my second of P90X+ . I feel stronger then ever and I
am in the best shape of my life. I only wish I had started sooner. Thank you
Beachbody and Million Dollar Body for making these great products available.
Since I first “pushed play”, aside from the health benefits I’ve been blessed to
have found the true love of my life and enjoy a closer relationship with my
brother and his family. Both make pushing play easy! My life has truly
changed in so many ways since “day one”.
