I'm 49 years young...and have been a long time exerciser (25+ years) and have been an athlete of sorts doing marathons and triathlons for the last 12 years. Have done 11 marathons and 40 triathlons including 6 half ironmans and 1 full ironman (2004). 2004 was my peak year, I was in the best athletic condition of my life. I'm 49 years young...and have been a long time exerciser (25+ years) and have been an athlete of sorts doing marathons and triathlons for the last 12 years. Have done 11 marathons and 40 triathlons including 6 half ironmans and 1 full ironman (2004). 2004 was my peak year, I was in the best athletic condition of my life. Since that time I've had some health struggles...4 ear surgeries and have developed asthma. I find it harder as I get into my late 40's to stay in shape esp. with health issues and medications. I've gained about 20-25 lbs despite staying with a consistent workout program. My eating definitely needs work though, I struggle with a sweet tooth and sticking with consistent balanced eating.
Update April 2011... last October I got serious about my eating and have since lost 30 pounds!! It is amazing what clean healthy eating will do for you. I eat very little junk food now and am very excited as race season starts, won't be lugging those extra 30 lbs in my races. I did have one setback with a stress fracture in my right hip so had to stop running for 3 months during the winter but still feel ready to race.
Update Feb 2012....I had an excellent race season in 2011...consistently placed 2nd or 3rd in my age goup in triathlon!! I almost won my age group in my last triathlon of the season in Sept but because of a calf cramp got passed during the run right at the finish line. Since Sept my work load and stress exploded and with the holiday season have since gained back 12 pounds. So it's time to get serious again about getting that weight off and preparing for race season!! Game on!!
