Hammond, LA Hello all!!! My name is Shawn and I am a 30 year old married father of two wonderful children. I live in Hammond, LA, which is a suburb of New Orleans, LA. I have lived in this area my entire life, so I have the privledge and curse of living around the best food in the world!!!

I have lived in this area my entire life, so I have the privledge and curse of living around the best food in the world!!!
I have been overweight since my first semester of college nearly 13 years ago. My entire early adult life has consisted of having fun with friends around a 6 pack of beer and BBQ. Living in the Deep South around New Orleans, everything revolves around drinking and eating. Needless to say, I was/am good at both. With the birth of my son, I told myself I had to get in shape. Three years later, with the birth of my daughter, I told myself I had to get in shape. I have always needed to lose weight, but I convinced myself that I was ok because my blood pressure, cholesterol and other health factors were not affected. As a Registered Nurse, I see day in and day out the effects of obesity on individuals.
In the past few months, I have been reading more books than I ever have in my life. One author, Matthew Kelly, has a message about becoming the best version of yourself. I felt that I was professionally successful, I had a wonderful family and I had good friends that provided solid support. Why did I have to be overweight? This was not being the best version of myself. Furthermore, it was going to give my children a poor role model to look up to as they form their eating and exercise habits.
I have tried and failed so many diet, pill, shake, exercise and other programs over the years. I have never fully committed and I always convinced myself that I'm not that bad... Last month, I sat my wife down and apologized to her for the person I had allowed myself to be. I am not happy with my physical appearance, and we both deserve better. It is not fair to her and my children to have an overweight husband and dad. I resolved that I would change. P90X is the answer we have been looking for.
In 10 days, I have already lost 5 pounds. I feel energized about the program. I enjoy the exercises and find that I have not been hungry since I started. My wife is totally committed as a partner to help me improve my health. She is helping with meal prep and healthy recipes for us. I am joining this forum to give me additional support for when/if I hit any of those plateaus that will discourage me. I am ready to be a new, healthy person. P90X is going to be the catalyst that allows that to happen.

I am beginning my journey to optimal health. I am ready to be the role model I need to be for my two children, and the husband I should have been for the last 8 years to my wife. My body has not begun to show any of the adverse effects of obesity such as hypertension, diabetes and arthritis. This transformation is to make sure that I do not develop those diseases due to poor physical health.
