I'm a 40 something stay at home mom who needs more physical challenge than chasing my two little boys (6 y.o. and 3 y.o) all day. We've just started homeschooling, which means the fun never ends at our house and I need extra energy to get through my days.
My fitness background has been varied. I had an ACL/MCL injury at age 11 that kept me from pursuing any real athletics ( I walked around without an ACL for 16 years). I was "husky" when I was young and a recreational eater. In 1995, I had my second knee surgery which leapfrogged me into physical fitness. I did aerobics and biking, and then started running with my then boyfriend (now husband). I ran 30-50 miles a week for about 5 years and ran a marathon in 1999. Was lean and mean, but ate junk.
After children, and now hitting my 40s, I see the need for better diet and fitness. I ran for a while with kids in the stroller, doing a half marathon in 2007, but have struggled with maintaining a regular exercise schedule since we've kind of grown out of that stage. I love at-home workouts, have lots of videos and equipment, but am still searching for the perfect routine(s) to keep me motivated. My husband is a wicked-bad binge eater despite daily exercise, so diet has been a struggle for me.
I'm hoping to slim down, get some muscles, keep up with energy that will help me be mentally and physically fit to do all the mommy, wifey, schooly, housey things I do every day.
Oh, I also have a two dogs Sparky and Aspen who often conspire to annoy me during workouts in our gym (the back porch.) I make my home in Virginia, but was born and raised in Wisconsin.
July 2010 - I have done many BB programs these days - P90X (2 rounds), CLX (2 rounds), Insanity and now starting TurboFire. I have only lost about 6 lbs. in the last year on BB, but my body has completely changed. I have dropped a couple of clothing sizes, and have more defined muscles all over my body. I really would like to get mean and lean, and lose another 8-9 lbs. and get more definition in my legs and abs. I just keep going!
