I've decided it's time for me to take some personal responsibility, become disciplined and start leading a healthier lifestyle. I've always had horrible eating habits and my exercise regime went out the window after leaving the military (over 30 years ago!). As a result, I have a long road ahead of me. That's okay though, because I have the rest of my life! I've tried the diet and exercise routine before and was never consistent in application or results. This time I'm taking a different approach. I'm viewing this as a new lifestyle, not a patch until I lose a few pounds and feel a little better. I believe that with this approach and the support at team beachbody, success is inevitable!!

Wow, where to start is the tough question here. I reached the lowest point of my life in 2009. I had debilitating health issues that year. They led to 2 hospitalizations, a plethora of medications and me facing my own mortality. I was on the couch, all day, every day, eating nothing but junk. I had no energy or enthusiasm. I hated myself and my self destructive ways. I knew I needed a drastic lifestyle change. Somehow, I mustered the strength to ignite a little spark of enthusiasm, to change my life. I became determined to live a higher quality of life, on all levels. I had seen the P90X info-mercial a few times. Having survived boot camp in my younger days, I knew that mentally, I was capable of surviving anything! I finally ordered the program and then promptly put off putting it to use. It sat on the shelf and collected dust for a few months. I came up with every excuse imaginable to refrain from starting the program. In the meantime, I started walking 2.5 miles on a daily basis. In speaking with a friend in regards to maintaining the discipline to walk every day, she wisely said to me "You know, there is a lot to be said for the Nike slogan "Just do it". If you think about it and talk to yourself, you'll always come up with a reason not to exercise." I took those words to heart and continued to walk every day. Fast forward to a new year. A few days after my 50th birthday I'm looking in the mirror at a person I can't stand. At 257 lbs. I'm about the heaviest I've ever been. I decided enough is enough and it was time for things to change. I ordered the things I needed and started reviewing the P90X program. As it turned out, I couldn't pass the entry fitness test for the program. I didn't want to go from almost no exercise to a highly intensive program, which would overwhelm me and make me want to give up. So I selected Power 90 to start with and will move on to the X once I finish. I'm going to do the "Fat burning express" when starting Power 90, to give my body a jump start and shed a few quick pounds to raise my motivational level. As my photos will attest, I am in the worst shape of my life. That's okay however. It leaves me with nowhere to go but up! I'm stocked with the supplements and gear I need. The junk food is going and I'm becoming much more discerning when selecting food. I've joined teambeachbody and am using the tools and the website to increase motivation and stay connected. I think accountability is a key part of the programs. I can't start the program until 2/1/10 due to work comittments. Until then I'll be living on the tbb site to get connected, motivated and learn all I can. Let the games begin! I'd love to hear from anyone who needs a workout buddy, or just wants to converse about the programs or life in general. United we stand! Let's do it!!
