I've struggled with my weight, incorrect nutrition, and wrong information about nutrition and exercise most of my life.
At about 10-12 my mother had me on weight watchers and drinking slim fast telling me that I needed to lose weight and that I was "fighting genetics". My entire family on my mother's side were all obese to morbidly obese and I thought there was nothing I could do about it.
I was a slender child who became overweight at puberty, then when I hit my next growth "spurt" I slimmed back down, but by that time it was already ingrained into my head that dieting was something to do to look good for an occasion and was a punishment for being overweight, exercise was a chore. At 16 I got pregnant with my first child and my real struggles began, believing I was eating for two I put on over 100 pounds in 9 months, and I didn't lose hardly any of it again until I was in my early 20's. As I lost weight from eating healthier and being more active I felt better, but I ended up pregnant again and never fully lost the weight back. At 23 I lost my father to a heart attack. My father was also overweight, diabetic, with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, he ate horribly, didn't exercise and even lost his sight due to diabetes. I still didn't wake up.
Fast forward to 30, I still hadn't lost the weight fully from my first two pregnancies, tho I did lose some and I am obese to morbidly obese and my husband and I decide to have our first child. I gained some weight again, not as much with my first two pregnancies, but enough and I was gestationally diabetic. Luckily I was able to control it with diet, but I was still high risk. I still didn't wake up and see what I was doing to myself and my body. At 32 I got pregnant with our last child (who is now two) and went gestationally diabetic early, I didn't gain any weight at all until almost the third trimester and ended up on insulin. It still didn't sink in that each pregnancy and each case of gestational diabetes was adding to my risk of being a type 2 diabetic afterwards, especially with my history.
I am now 34 years old and my moment of truth came when I had to be put on over $100 worth of medications and Dr. visits a month to keep me awake at work at night, taking care of my children during the day and sleeping when I could. My hair was thinning and working in a call center my weight was creeping up again, to more than 250 lbs. I was asked by my coach, Paul Kosby if I could spend 10 minutes a day working out and I jumped on it. I spent more than that tossing and turning to try and sleep. I signed up as a coach the same day I ordered Shakeology and the 10 Minute Trainer. I did it to have personal accountability and get a discount on products and got hooked.
My husband signed up under me and ordered P90X. I went a month of the 10 Minute Trainer while P90X collected dust. Then in April we committed to making a change, cleaned our house of junk and both are doing P90X.
From mid March to mid June (missing a few weeks in between) I've lost over 20 lbs, over 20 inches and 2 pants sizes. My husband has lost 40 lbs and 2 pants sizes and 1 shirt size.
I've found a new love for fitness and nutrition and am looking into personal training certification and pursuing my degree to become a registered dietitian/nutritionist.
I love the people I am meeting along this journey and the positivity I am now surrounded with and looking forward to meeting more people!
It's taken me awhile to realize it's okay to take time for me and fitness and health doesn't have to be an "all or nothing" journey, I can be successful by making small changes every day.

I was introduced to yo-yo dieting at about 10 years old by my mother who was always overweight, long before I was overweight. She taught me exercise was a chore and bad cooking in mass was the way to go because then you just diet it off, and once you get married you can do whatever you want. (No joke!)
At 16 I got pregnant with my first child and my real weight issues began, I was told I was eating for two and gained over 100 lbs in one pregnancy going from a "too skinny" (family's words not mine) 126 lbs to well over 200. I went back down, but never fully lost all the weight.
Rinse/repeat for another 3 pregnancies and fighting to try and lose in between until recently. In mid-March I decided I had enough of trying. I was going to do this time.
I started with a 10 minute trainer and Shakeology, because with two small children at home taking care of them all day and working all night I didn't have time to workout, or so I thought.
I started my workouts on March 17th and Shakeology closely thereafter. Now I am also doing P90X with my husband. My schedule hasn't changed, but my outlook and energy levels have.
I have already lost over 30 pounds and more than 20 inches already. I am down from 252 lbs to 222. I was down 20 plus as of 70 days into working out. Now mind you I missed a week and a half in April and another 2 weeks in the middle of May.
My goal is to keep making small changes every day until I am where I want and need to be to change. I'm not perfect, no one is. But I went from thinking exercise is a chore to enjoying it. From taking over $100 in prescriptions with blood work every 3 months and a Dr. telling me to lose weight, to losing and no prescriptions.
It's not a habit yet, I still struggle and I'm not perfect. I occasionally have a piece of cake or a piece of pizza, but it's farther and fewer between. Once I am where I need to be and want to be for nutrition the weight will sky rocket off.
As of May 27th I still had about 100 pounds to go, but I feel amazing. As of July 9th I have just under that to go (it's been a rough couple of months on my schedule.) My hair and nails are growing back (after I was told my hair was genetic loss and I might as well give up - it was so thin you could see my head through it no matter what), I feel great.
So I am just going to keep pushing forward, and pushing play. If you want to share this journey with me, then I will walk along side until we can run, then run alongside you also.
I love meeting new people and positive ones too, so feel free to friend me and we can do this together!
