I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am currently expecting my first child in June. Now, more than ever, I'm starting to realize the importance of staying fit and eating right. It's a huge struggle right now to make sure that I get enough exercise without overdoing it. But, there is no option to not exercise! Studies have shown that women who work out during pregnancy have an easier and faster time regaining their pre-pregnancy figure when everything is said and done. In fact, I hope to get back to even better, more toned body!
As a teen, I was relatively active: I played soccer, ran track and field, and lifted weights on a regular basis. Once I graduated from college and started working full time, I was searching for excuses on why I was too tired to work out and that, at the end of a hard day, I should give myself a "break" and chill out in front of the television. As a result, my fitness level plummeted. It was time to be proactive and do something about it.
Genetically, I have always been a relatively thin person. But it wasn't until fairly recently that I discovered that I got out of breath doing the most basic things. Thin does not equal fit.
My goal is to continue to work out during pregnancy. No excuses!

I never thought that I really needed to work out. I was thin, right, so what was the point? However, I would come home at the end of the day and feel sluggish, especially when your job entitles you to sit in front of a computer screen for eight hours. It finally dawned on me that humans were not meant to be that sedentary. I realized that my caveman ancestors must be looking down on me in shame!
The turning point for me was when my close friend was getting successful results from her Beach Body workout program. I literally saw the pounds drop from her and, most importantly, her energy level went way up. She told me that she was doing "Chalean Extreme" and kindly suggested that it would do my scrawny arms some good to join her in the program and become her workout buddy.
The first day that I tried Chalean Extreme, I thought I was going to die! I never realized how badly out of shape I was. I had to start out with the modified, lighter weights, but even that was a struggle. Everytime I did a rep, my arms were, to quote Chalene, "shaking like a scared chihuahua!" I kept on it, though. And overtime I was able to push through the routine without feeling like I was going to throw up. At the same time, I looked at other aspects in my life and decided to reshape my overall health. I had been a social smoker for about five years. I realized that my goal of complete overall health for myself would not be fully achieved if I continued to smoke. Chalene indirectly helped me to finally quit. It was definitely hard, but worth it. My lungs feel clearer and it's easier for me to complete workouts now.
After a few months, I now can see and feel my results. I have some nice definition in my arms and, finally, have the semblance of an actual rear-end! (thank you, squats!) I still go once a week to my friends house to work-out and have now incorporated Turbo Jam in my routine. I'm nowhere near finished with my fitness journey, but I am extremely excited with the quick results and my new attitude towards getting healthy!
