Throughout my life, my athleticism defined me. In high school I was a 3 Sport Athlete. My friends were my teammates and my summers were spent at Training camps. After college, I moved to San Diego and got an office job. Wind Sprints and team practices were substituted with trips to the "candy jar" and conference calls. Little by little I found myself losing that competitive spirit that lived inside me. It wasn't long before I looked in the mirror and saw not the well toned athlete but the soft lazy computer nerd. Where did that athlete go!? It was time for a change.
I remember the morning vividly. I woke up early, hung over and unable to sleep. I flipped through the channels and saw the infomercial for P90x. I sat there listening intently and seeing the transformations that others achieved. With each success story, the more depressed I became about the way I looked and felt.
At the pinnacle of my unhealthiness, I was eating McDonald's three times a week, ordering grande burrito's regularly, and eating a Little Cesar's Hot n' Ready pizza alone in one sitting. When I decided to start P90x, I was ridiculed by my friends and co-workers. Instead of receiving encouragement, I got "over/under" bets on how long this 'thing' would last (The popular bet was under a week). Well, the week passed, albeit slowly. They tempted me often, trying to get me to abandon my goals. But a week turned into five, and then more. As each week passed the teasing and attempts to deflate my spirit subsided. By the end of my first 90 days I had lost 10% of my body fat. Those that ridiculed me were now inquisitive about the program. And while that was a great victory for me, I got the most pleasure in feeling that burning desire to push myself, that competitive spirit, alive again. I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I've never looked better or felt better, and I owe it all to Beachbody and P90x. I hope my story is relate-able and it inspires others to regain control of their lives. Find that passion, whatever and wherever it is, and liberate it.
