Several years ago, at the peak of my fitness, I weighed 122 lbs, with 14.5% body fat, and my total cholesterol was around 100. Around the Fall of 2006, I spiraled into a cycle of poor diet and inactivity when I acquired a health problem which was misdiagnosed. My symptom consisted of a dry cough which kept me awake at night. I stayed up, eating snacks for comfort, and then was too tired to exercise during the day. It took over a year for specialists to diagnose me with seasonal asthma, and I spent another year experimenting with different medication dosages, which finally provided enough relief to allow me to sleep through the night.
During these two years, I had gained 30 lbs, my body fat had increased to 30%, and my total cholesterol topped 200. My weight gain slowed me down, and I avoided social gatherings because my clothes did not fit well, having increased from a size 4 to a size 12. After my first 6 months with WOWY, I lost enough weight that my husband treated me to a new ski outfit! After a year with WOWY, I had lost only 10 lbs, down to 149 lbs, but my body looked better than when I weighed my regular 135 lbs. This is because the ChaLEAN Extreme program gave me muscles yet retained my feminine curves; I now realize that being "skinny lean" at 122 lbs. is not my best physical shape. At the same time that I started WOWY, I also began swimming at the pool, and I had to wear a maternity swimsuit even though I was not expecting! After 2 years with WOWY, I've lost 14 lbs., and I can now wear sleek competition swimsuits because I can fit into smaller sizes! My teenage daughter calls me a "Hip Mom" now because I can wear stylish clothes.
The BEST part about getting back into shape with WOWY is that I no longer have to take asthma medication, and I sleep like a bear because my muscles need the rest!

Update: January 2011...For the first time in a long time, I'm starting the year in awesome shape-no need to resolve to lose weight, as I've met my weight goal of 133 lbs. and my body fat goal of 22.5%. My current occupation is physically demanding, and my challenge is to not eat for comfort and gain frivolous calories. It feels fantastic to be starting the New Year on the right foot!
Update: October 2010...Finally met my goal of 25 lbs. weight loss! I am loving the glamour muscles in my arms! I am headed back into surgery to repair a torn meniscus in my left knee. Due to my injury, I have been doing more yoga and low impact aerobics, combined with ChaLean Extreme and Brazilian Butt Lift. Keeping limber helps with my mobility while awaiting surgery.
Update: August 2010...I completed P90X for my ACL recovery, and gained back almost complete range and mobility in my knee, while losing 8 lbs and another 2% of body fat. I'm doing lots of home repair work this summer, and enjoying the physical exercise from working outside, so I'm having fun with Hip Hop Abs and Brazilian Butt Lift. All the leg work involved in toning my butt also helps with my knee recovery!
Update: May 2010...I tore my right ACL in February, while skiing moguls. Seven years before, I had torn my left ACL playing soccer, so I cannot believe I'm facing this injury and recovery again! Three weeks after my surgery at the end of March, I began P90X. I was inspired to do this workout in place of my physical therapy because my injured leg was still very strong from my ChaLean Extreme workout. I have just completed my first month of P90X, post-op, and I have increased the strength and flexibility in my leg with noticeable improvement from day to day. Now I'm looking forward to skiing again this winter!
In February of 2008, I saw Tony Horton's P90X infomercial early one Sunday morning. The words "muscle confusion" peaked my interest because I had already read about this training technique during my fit years. The 90-day transformation testimonials sold me on P90X, and I bought the program that same day. It's only 90 days, I thought. When my package arrived, I spent time carefully reading the booklet, buying additional equipment, and establishing my benchmark measurements. Once I began this challenging program, P90X brought out my competitive spirit. I love the plyometrics workout, and I have become proficient with the yoga DVD, a new activity for me.
I am now addicted to WOWY! I log in every day to make an appointment with myself, so that I can achieve my "X" for the day. Through the Team Beachbody Store, I discovered TurboJam, Shaun T's Hip-Hop Abs, and ChaLEAN Extreme, which is my favorite TBB workout because Chalene Johnson alternates pumped-up cardio with intense resistance in an efficient 30-45 minutes. WOWY is amazing because it allows me to track ChaLEAN Extreme, P90X, and all the other TBB workouts, and yet, I even get credit for swimming at the gym! I like to mix up my TBB routine with spinning and Zumba classes, and I can record these activities, too. I love WOWY because it makes me accountable for my fitness. I have already lost 10 inches since joining WOWY!
All the products I have bought from Team BeachBody have performed as promised--even the pull-up bars, which I had doubted would work properly. After only 30 days, I regained much energy and muscle tone, and my healthy diet inspired my family to eat well, too. After 60 days, I noticed an improvement in my stamina and strength. In November 2009, I finished my first round of ChaLean Extreme, after 90 days, and I am amazed that I have gained sculpted muscles, yet I have retained my feminine curves.
Working out with BeachBody products gave me the confidence to try skiing when I turned 40. After having ACL surgery several years ago, I never thought I would be able to learn to ski, much less be able to ski the Black Diamond slopes in my first season! I feel so well now that I ski with my family all winter! Right now, my greatest athletic accomplishment is being able to swim a mile in 42 minutes!
Looking ahead into 2010, I would like to finish the full 90 days of P90X, and then I would like to tackle Insanity and RevAbs. I am a Team BeachBody member for life!
