I’m 48 years old, mother of 2 young boys, 9 and 11, and am a competitive
swimmer. My downfall is food, portion size and overeating. I own my own
business, so life is stressful. I currently swim 4 days a week, about 2800-
3500 yards in about an hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, depends on the workout.
I want to get back into serious competition and be someone to be reckoned
with in the pool. I

I started this program December 30, 2007, with a bit of skepticism. I’ve been
a competitive swimmer for the past few years, and just have not been able to
slim down since having my last child seven years ago, and have just been
heavy in the water. I decided to try this program and eat smartly. It was
difficult at first because I had to find the extra 45 minutes in an already
packed day to cross-train with P90. I also have a huge appetite. I decided to
commit to this by planning my meals every day.

I started with Phase 1-2 for the first day, but found it too easy, so jumped to
3-4, just increasing weights and repetitions as I progressed through. There
were some days when I ate foods that were detrimental, but I needed to move
past beating myself up about it. Around the fourth week into the program, I
added in Hip Hop Abs to get some fun cardio in. My two sons have been
extremely supportive by doing some of the exercises with me, cheering me
on, and making sure I watch what I eat. Our meal times have been off
schedule, but we’re working around that.

I am so pleased to say that at Day 70, my times have gotten faster; I no
longer have pain in my shoulder when I swim; I’ve dropped 13 lbs and 15
inches; my endurance is better, and I am able to practice harder. I feel good!

Day 90 was on March 28, 2008, and I’ve gone from 212 to 194 lbs, and lost
19 inches, and I feel great.

As far as pool accomplishments, this April, my Women’s 45+ 400 yard
Medley Relay just set a new National Record! I am so thrilled. I’ve never
gotten a record before, much less a national one. So, okay, it’s with a relay,
but that just means an individual one is not too far out of my reach at this
point.

I went to Short Course Nationals in Austin, TX from May 1-4. I swam very well
considering I haven’t competed at this level since 1998 when I had my first
child. My times were very close to what I did prior to having children and I’m
very pleased with that. Next May 2009 ... Just watch out!

I have just been selected to represent the US at the 2009 Maccabiah Games in
Israel for swimming. These are the Jewish Olympics and are the third largest
international competitive event. The games will be in the last two weeks of
July, so I’ve got a major goal and will be ramping up my training, in the pool
and with Beachbody.

On October 26, 2008, I will begin a new journey with P90X. I’m stocking up
the kitchen, setting up the chin up bar, and getting myself mentally ready.
This will be my “secret weapon” for getting in shape for next July’s games in
Israel.
