Kansas City, MO I have joined this group at the behest of my Brother as I have made quite a bit of progress, and am looking forward to some low impact things I can do to accelerate my weight loss and make the magic happen.

I'm a single parent of an amazing 14 year old kid who makes excellent grades, plays 3 instruments, and encourages me each step of the way because he wants me to be around as he continues to grow up. Since my son was capable of cognitive thought, he has had a real and serious concern about my health. His greatest fear is that one day I will die and leave him alone. His greatest fears were echoed by some of my own family as they voiced their concerns in front of him. I finally took his fears to heart, and had a moment of panic and anger that pushed me to make a decision where it would be all or nothing, and I have started to doing something about the problem.
I started off at 431 pounds about 9 or 10 weeks ago, and on Thursday June 18th I weighed in at 366 pounds for a total loss of 65 pounds. I've been doing a LOT of walking with or without 5 pound weights in each hand, and once I lost my first 30 pounds I was able to do more walking, and started the Slim in 6 program because it's low impact. I play basketball now, and while I do reach my limits, I've been getting great encouragement from Poppabear, and his whole family, and all of my friends.
I'm on what is basically the Atkins diet at this point, and I'm trying to stick to whole foods and good nutrition, and am taking 2 multivitamins a day with an amino acid complex and an enzyme complex to make up for the lack of carby foods. Eventually I plan to turn this into a more nutritious approach as I drop more weight and become capable of more activity.
I am going to stick with what I'm doing, but feel free to suggest modifications as I go. I think I need to lose another 25 to 50 pounds before I can do much in the area of resistance. I think once I lose that much more my knees will have a lot less stress on them and I'll be ready to take the next step.
I've learned quite a bit in the past few months about Beach Body and Coaching, and I recommend talking to people as the community support is the best of any fitness program I've ever seen.
