My transformation story begins in December of 2007 when I found myself at a crossroads in my health. For many years, I had struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and I knew that I needed to make a decision to get in shape and start eating right. But I was overwhelmed by the idea of doing this, because I was so busy, just trying to keep up with everyday life. Working full time for a hospital, pastoring a church, and overseeing missions projects in underdeveloped countries, including traveling to them, took up all my time. Time wasn't the only issue keeping me either. I felt that even if I did have time to exercise and eat healthier, I wouldn't have the energy to do it! I thought my physical condition was beyond repair! As far as I knew, my high cholesterol at 240 was genetic, and going without medication was not an option. My joints ached terribly from the medications. My neck was in constant pain from a ruptured disc injury, and my knees were terribly weak from a torn ACL injury. Considering all of these things, I completely counted myself out of getting involved in Beachbody. I have always found great joy in life, in what I do, in pastoring, in my family, but I just couldn't keep up physically. I was always fatigued. Thankfully, that December, my son, Jason, and his wife, Tiffany, who are Beachbody coaches, encouraged me to begin taking Joint Support and Activit and to start working out. I took the supplements, and after two weeks I noticed a huge difference in my joints. This gave me hope that I might be able to exercise! Then, for Christmas, my children surprised me with Power 90 1-2/3-4. I liked doing Power 90 because the workouts were 35 minutes long and lower impact. During the first few weeks, I struggled and became familiar with the pause button. I averaged 3-4 workouts a week, and modified moves to protect my knees and back. After the 1st month, my knee was regaining strength, and I was able to go on to 3-4 without the modifications. Beginning October 1, 2008, I decided to go crazy and began P90X! The X is challenging, but is my greatest accomplishment! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would look and feel this great at 54! I was exercising great, so I decided to clean my diet up as well. I grew up in a big family and had never eaten very healthy. So I began making changes. I started eating oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, a salad and protein for lunch, and a healthy well-balanced dinner. I also cut out the sweets, and considered my delicious Recovery Drink my treat. Overall, the transformation has been amazing. Last August I found out that my cholesterol had dropped to 145! I was shocked to learn that I no longer needed medication. I was so surprised that I made the nurse repeat herself twice! Also, my knee pain is entirely gone! Maintaining a new lifestyle through exercise and diet helps in every area of my life. I have more energy at work, when I am studying, in meetings, and in the office. I feel excellent! I look excellent enough that my co-workers have noticed and many of them are now working out with P90 too! Nearly everyone wants to know what I have done. I have a story to tell! Since winning the contest in December, I have received several new customers who are in my age group. They requested me as their coach because they were encouraged to see someone their age achieve the results that I have. This brings great satisfaction and encouragement to me knowing that I can make a life changing difference in someone else's life. I never dreamed that I would someday be a motivation for another to become physically fit! It keeps ME motivated knowing this! Also, since winning the contest, I spent two weeks in Sudan, Africa in a Sub-Saharan climate. When I left for Africa, I had just finished my sixth week of P90X. I firmly believe that P90X gave me the stamina to endure the heat and walking that our mission required. Having changed my diet already by eating smaller portions helped me cope with not being ABLE to have large meals in Sudan. Many times, food was just not available, so a large part of my diet was P90X Bars and Recovery Drinks. They helped me so much!
