My story is a little different - I was never overweight; however, I had a very unhealthy self-image. I struggled many years with depression and anxiety, mainly because I thought I had to look like the women I saw on TV, in movies, and in magazines. I would get depressed thinking I would never look good enough so I would eat just about everything in site. Then almost immediately I would worry about gaining weight so I'd go a couple days without eating a thing.
At 18 years old, I had gotten so obsessed with being thin that I went a whole week without eating. I drank water and soda, but nothing else. While at work one day, I started feeling like I would pass out. I was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with dehydration, Mitral Valve Prolapse, and Arrhythmia. I was put on medication; which also helped control the depression and anxiety. I was told to quit smoking and cut out the caffeine. I did finally quit smoking, and gained 10 pounds that first year.
Since I had weighed 110 pounds for most of my life, now weighing 120 pounds was a lot for me, in my mind. So I started doing some aerobics at home and kept pretty consistent with it for a couple years. I would reach my goal weight and then quit working out. So each time I quit exercising, I would end up gaining the weight back.
I got so desperate that I would buy just about everything advertised on TV promising "quick results" and "weight loss without exercise". So much money spent on gadgets, pills and shakes and I was still not getting the results I wanted. I was looking for a quick fix and wasn’t finding it.
When I reached the Big 30, my life and my weight had gotten out of control. Instead of living like I was in the prime of my life, I was yet again dealing with depression and anxiety. I managed to gain more weight and was up to 130 pounds. I was not happy with how I looked or how I felt about myself.
I decided to join a gym and hired a personal trainer. I had great results, but it just got so expensive that I couldn’t afford it any longer. Needless to say, I also didn’t continue at home due to lack of motivation and I ended up gaining back most of the weight I had lost.
Early in 2006, I was in a car accident, but thankfully only received a fractured ankle. I was in a cast for 3 months and not able to workout. In that time, my weight went back up to 130 pounds. I remember laying on the couch one night in December 2006, feeling bad about myself. I was flipping through the TV channels and ran across a commercial for Slim In 6. It grabbed my attention when I heard it was only 6 weeks. But my negative side kicked in and I thought this was just another “fitness gimmick” to get into people’s pocketbooks. So I turned off the TV and went to bed. A few days went by and the commercial came on again. Not sure why, but I decided to watch the whole thing through. I realized the people in the videos actually did the program and got results from it. They were REAL people! So this time, as soon as the commercial went off, I placed the order for Slim In 6.
I was going through some physical therapy for my ankle but I still didn't have full range-of-motion yet. I just started out slow and easy. I was a little discouraged in the beginning because I didn't think my ankle was going to cooperate with me. However, the more I kept working out, the more flexible my ankle became. It was difficult to eat healthier considering I had been eating whatever I wanted to the past 6 months. But I was determined to do this, I not only wanted to lose weight, but also gain the range of motion in my ankle again. Along the way, I noticed my body actually WANTED healthier foods! I ended up losing 10 pounds and 5 inches in 6 weeks!!
To date, I have completed Slim In 6, Turbo Jam, 2 rounds of P90X, and mixed in some P90X+ and Power Half Hour. I feel better inside and out! I am eating healthier and taking care of myself and helping my family do the same, especially since I became a Beachbody Coach! I recently started a round of ChaLEAN Extreme and I can't wait to see what this program is going to do for me! I am so amazed at how much flexibility and strength I have gained from using the Beachbody programs, not to mention the weight loss and the lean muscle gain I have achieved. I am still on the anti-depressants, but I am able to take a smaller dose now, and hope to be off them completely one day.
Thank you Team Beachbody for all the support, motivation, and knowledge you supply to us with your fitness programs and the quality supplements you offer! I will NEVER be the same again...and I will be pushing play for the rest of my life!
