Growing up, I was never much into taking care of myself. Never really thought I had to. I had never been overweight - but that doesn't mean I was always healthy. I started smoking when I was 14 years old, I struggled off and on throughout my late teen's and early 20's with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I would flip-flop back and forth between starving myself for days at a time, to stuffing my face with whatever food I could find; which was usually junk food like Doritos, Twinkies, etc.
About the time I turned 30; my unhealthy eating habits were starting to catch up with me. I was told to quit smoking due to health issues (Mitral Valve Prolapse and Mild Arrhythmia). I had always been a size 5, 110 lbs. throughout most of my life and I was now wearing a size 10 and 130 lbs. - at only 5'4" tall, I felt huge.
I made a decision to start exercising and trying to eat better. I did fairly well; bought some home exercise videos and a few hand weights. I would drop down to my goal weight and thought I could just stop and everthing would be ok. Duh! I would start the same routines again but got bored quickly with the programs I was doing. The food part was a little difficult as well. I'm a vegetarian and quite the picky eater. :) I always ended up gaining the weight back. I had the desire to be healthy, just didn't have the knowledge on what it took to get there.
Then I saw the infomercials from Beachbody.....

I was in a car accident at the end of February 2006 and luckily, only got a fractured ankle. My car wasn't as lucky...it was totaled. I was doing my PT to get the full range of motion back in my ankle, but was afraid of injuring it again. I babied it a lot; which wasn't helping me to lose the weight I had gained. I knew I needed to do something, I wasn't happy with how I looked or how I felt.
In December of that year, I was up late watching TV and saw an infomercial for Slim In 6. I was always sucked into those late night infomercials and ordered so much "crap" in the past to help me lose weight. Everything always ended up in yard sales or in the trash, and I was always left with disappointment. So, I decided to ignore the infomercial. I didn't want to waste anymore money on fitness gimmicks and tricks.
It seemed that infomercial would come on every time I turned on the TV! I gave in and figured I would give it a shot; it would be my New Year's gift to myself. Hopefully not another resolution that would be broken.
I have to admit, when I first received the Slim In 6, it sat on the TV for over a month. I have a fear of failure and didn't want to set myself up again. I wanted something with lasting results, not empty promises like so many of the diet pills, shakes, creams, etc. I finally opened it and read through all the information. I even watched the Start It Up DVD and thought, "Hey this seems like something I could do!" I didn't start the program until the end of February 2007 - but I haven't looked back since! I finished out that 6 weeks and was able to gain most of the movement in my ankle again and dropped weight and inches like crazy. I had lost 10 lbs. and 10 inches overall.
I have been with Beachbody for over 2 years now. I started out with Slim In 6, and then went on to complete Turbo Jam, P90X, and ChaLean Extreme!
I have not gotten bored with my workouts. There are so many different programs to choose from; and each one challenges you in different ways. I have gained so much knowledge from the Beachbody staff and the members on the Message Boards. I love working out with my Success Buddies in WOWY, the online super gym; it's a wonderful accountability tool.
Beachbody has been THE BEST decision I have made in my life concerning my health. I feel so blessed to be a part of this awesome community!! Thank You Beachbody for changing my life!!
