Sioux Falls, SD I am married and a mother of 2 beautiful girls. I grew up on a hobby farm outside a small (like 2,500 people small) town in South Dakota. I was involved in everything from soccer (long before it was popular), basketball, softball, tennis, etc. If it came home on a flier, I signed up for it and loved it.

In high school I took the more artistic route -- theatre, band, choir, and debate (NERD!). And I loved that, too.
After our second daughter was born, I was huge and I hated it. I decided to learn to swim at age 24. That's one activity I never really took to when I was younger. It really helped the weight come off. At the same time my husband decided he was going to run a marathon. Keep in mind he hadn't ran since his freshman year of college.
My DH finished the Twin Cities marathon 15 minutes before they closed the finish line. A week later his toenails fell off. Gross.
Anyway, in my competive head I was thinking "if he can do a full marathon, I can do a half". So I did. Along with 7 other family members who thought it would be a great challenge. It was a great feeling to know I was responsible for getting my loved ones moving. Deadwood, my first half, is still my best time. What a beautiful race.
Later I used half marathons as excuses for travel: Miami, Pheonix, and Nashville. After a car accident, I pretty much fell off the radar because the running caused such horrible migraines.
Which leads me to today. Today I went to my anesthesiologist for yet another cortisone injection into my neck, and I clocked in at 150 pounds. I knew it was getting bad, but nothing in the 140's all summer caught my attention. Seeing 150 on the scale stopped my breath and I almost cried right there on the scale. I knew it was getting bad, but I never, ever thought I'd see 150 again after having my second child.
I have at least 25 pounds to lose to get back down to acceptable race weight, and another 10 on that to reach my goal.
35 pounds.
It seems so daunting, but yet so tangible. It has to be achievable. It just has to.
So tonight I pushed back all the furniture in our basement family room and dusted of my Slim in Six video tapes (yes, TAPES). My alarm is set and clothes laid out. If it wasn't for the nerve block I recived this afternoon, I'd be down there right now. 6 AM will give me a 16 hour cusion, just past my 12 hour restricted time.
I'm not giving myself a choice. This is it.
