Winnipeg, MB I'm 29 years old; young, I know. I play soccer year-round and I've always kept in shape; continuously on the go with tons of different sports, regular exercise, healthy eating (but with some bad habits that I'm kicking big time) and competitive to a fault, perhaps. Two and a half years ago I blew my ACL and was forced to tone things down until after sugury, which was November 2007. Seven gruelling I'm 29 years old; young, I know. Seven gruelling months of athletic therapy later, I returned to playing soccer in what I thought was the best shape of my life.
My step-father continually lights a dangerous competitive fire claiming that, because of past injuries, I have to hang up the boots. I used that and got right back to game shape. The last thing that he told me fitness related was that when I turned 30, I'd start to lose a step, athletically. The challenge was on.
Enter beating myself to a pulp five nights a week at the gym for a few months, mixing up workout routines but still not getting the results that I wanted. My motivation was fading as my ego would continue to tell me that I'd be fine in the end.
Enter P90X. What a program. And I find myself now, five months later and nearing the end of my second run of the "Doubles" routine, without question that thirty years of age will do nothing to me. Nor will forty, fifty, or beyond. But it really wasn't about the workouts. It really wasn't about the diet plan. Dont' get me wrong, the package is unbeatable; but that's not what it's about.
It was about change. It was about making a decision to change my life. It was about making a serious committment to the quality of my life and the long-term benefits. It was about success.
So who do I thank? Obviously the people at Beachbody for putting this together for me. I came across P90X from a couple of buddies that had tried a few of the workouts out so I have to thank them too. And of course, Tony Horton.
But I can't thank Tony for the workouts. Truly, anyone can put together the workouts, but no discredit whatsoever. I have to thank Tony Horton for the motivation. The way that he pushes you is incredible. The way that he teaches you to thank yourself for continually digging just a little deeper every time; to get up and do another one; to push play every single day; to stick with it no matter what; to drop the ego and do YOUR best, forgetting the rest; to struggle and be thankful for that struggle.
The mentality that this man has instilled in me, and so many others; THAT is what this program is about. THAT is what it must mean to "bring it". That's what it means to Decide, Commit, and Succeed. I get to thank myself, because I get to thank Tony Horton. It makes a bit of sense.
