I have never really needed to exercise because I was the type of person who could eat anything and not gain an ounce. I wasn’t into sports in high school and when I was in my early twenties, I had two small daughters who kept me active. I also worked full time but didn’t do much else except tend to family and home in Seattle. Our family recreation involved eating out at seafood places, camping, going to movies, playing in parks, watching ball games (husband was a high school coach and part-time referee), hosting card nights and bowling with friends. At this time I weighed 105 pounds. In my late 20’s I became a single parent and replaced ball games and bowling with one of my favorite pastimes - dancing.
Things changed when I was 38 because that’s when I started gaining a few pounds each year. I chalked it off to “I’m older, that’s the way it is”. I was on my second marriage living in Iowa, had just had my third daughter, and eating a lot of home cooked meals which included corn, potatoes, cheese, pork and beef. I had been working at a sit-down job for a couple years and I certainly wasn’t active. *sigh*
I decided to start exercising from magazine articles, library books, and with tapes that I purchased. But since there was no support from anyone or structure to all this, it would only last a few weeks then I was back to not doing anything until I got fed up with myself again. I also tried all kinds of diet pills and aids to no avail and for about 11 years kept gaining and losing the same 10 to 12 pounds. I got up to 125 pounds, the heaviest I had ever been in my life.
Then in September of 2000 we went to Maui for almost three weeks to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. I made up for loss time of not eating all the delicious Hawaiian dishes I love and gained 3 pounds. Back home again, I embarked on yet another attempt to shed the 3 plus pounds, when I received a phone call from my Mom in November that my Dad was killed in a motorcycle accident. We went back for another 3 weeks and I gained another 3 pounds. When we returned home in December, I was so depressed about my father that I let myself go and gained even more. Then one morning in May of 2001, and weighing 135 pounds, I got down on my knees and prayed that something would happen because I did not want to accept that I would be fat for the rest of my life.

My prayers were answered when I saw a Beachbody infomercial for P90! I knew if I had their help, support and guidance and did the work, I could get results similar to the people on the infomercial. I was so excited I ordered P90 right away and began the workouts as soon as the videos arrived. I found the structure and support that I was looking for and started working out with an open mind and a hopeful heart.
Within the first week I lost a couple pounds and knew this was going to be a piece of cake. Not so! My struggle has been with the diet and nutrition part of this whole lifestyle change. I exercised faithfully for 65 days before I discovered the message boards where I immediately found a ton of information, lots of support and encouragement and new friends. Here were people just like me wanting to be healthy and fit.
I got through my 90 days and was pretty pleased with my results. I lost 6 of the 17 pounds that I wanted to and about 5 inches to give me my figure back. It was easy to keep working out and except for a few weeks here and there for vacation and rest weeks, I've been working out since June 18, 2001 and love keeping fit!! I have completed rounds of P90, Power Half Hour, Slim Series, the Great Body Guaranteed series, Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs, Rockin' Body, Rev Abs, Brazil Butt Lift, ChaLEAN Extreme and Turbo Fire. I’ve used the Performance Formula, Women’s Supplements, Activit Vitamins, Slimming Formula and P90X Recovery Drink and utilized the very helpful nutrition information in the forums. I've cut back on some of the supplements becos I started drinking Shakeology nearly every day. Yum! I love the P90X Protein bars too...they don't taste yucky! lol
When Beachbody was growing so fast, I was overwhelmed and stopped coming to the message boards, although I kept working out 5 to 6 days a week, oftentimes in WOWY. I decided that it’s time to reach my original long-term goal and lose these last 7 pounds. I’ve been eating clean for about 3 years and have cut my portions - which was one of my biggest challenges. What can I say? I like to eat! I’m still working out 5 to 6 times a week with my BB dvds, walking when the weather permits, and go dancing as much as I can. I am also back to posting again in the message boards.
I am 61 years young, don't look it, don't feel it and have never been in better shape in my life. I believe BB has saved me from what could have been a miserable, unhealthy life for Wanda. Thank you Team Beachbody!
