We had been discussing starting P90X since we met in March 2008. David had purchased this program one year prior to that, took one look at the nutrition guide, and said "there's no way I can do this!" So, to the back of the closet this fantastic program went.
When we first met, neither of us could be considered fit. We were "average" at best. We came up with many excuses as to why we couldn't start P90X. "It's too time consuming." "We have more important things to do." "Our lives are too busy." Don't these sound all too familiar? The truth is...we came up with those excuses because we were afraid to fail.
It was on a vacation in February 2009 that we were at our lowest point. Our clothes (that were already larger than we wished) started to become tight, we couldn't enjoy certain activities during our vacation because we were afraid we couldn't keep up, we would look at fit people and wish we were them, and all we did was eat eat eat!
The day we got back, we pulled out that P90X box and dusted it off. We decided to follow P90X classic EXACTLY how it was designed (nutrition and all). Vanessa luckily had the patience to go through the nutrition plan with a fine tooth comb. And in hindsight, proper nutrition is just as important (if not more) than the exercise itself. Do not skip on it! After three weeks of following the nutrition plan, it became second nature.
Remember, anything of reward takes effort, and you get what you give. You will be giving your all when you start this program. We will never forget the first week of P90X. The second day, we were so sore that we couldn't even lift our arms to wash our hair! We were lucky if we got through a quarter of the Ab Ripper DVD. And Plyometrics?!? There was nothing more evil that had been placed into a 60 minute workout session before! BUT, we got through that first week one workout at a time.
Did we curse at Tony Horton on an almost nightly basis? You bet we did! We were saddened with ourselves that we couldn't do what they were doing, and we wondered if we would EVER be able to get there. We did it, and you can, too!
Let's fast forward to today. We have completed three rounds of P90X classic, 2 rounds of P90X+ Classic, 2 rounds of Insanity, a P90X+/Insanity hybrid, and are back to P90X Classic. Looking back on all of the excuses we made in order not to start, we just laugh!
P90X is as hard as it looks, but the feeling that comes with finally be able to accomplish everything in those videos is amazing!!! It is worth it, and YOU are worth it. Anything is possible with hard work and dedication, and we are the proof.
We both have never felt better, more in shape, and more energetic than we do today. P90X and most of the Beachbody library are life changing programs. We are happy when we are sore the next day because it means we brought it! It's an indescribable feeling to feel and look good in your clothes, and more importantly, your own skin.
