I was never really the athletic type at any point in my life, though. What I enjoyed most was the playing and trying hard. When I was a child in a small town, we were outside a lot playing with our friends, running and riding bikes.
As an older child and getting into early adulthood, most of my physical activity came through the martial arts. Also, since I didn't get my first car until I was 18 I walked everywhere. Sometimes this meant walking miles to and from work. People sometimes found all my walking a shock, if you can believe that. But I considered it not only enjoyable but also a sense of self-reliance.
For me this all intertwines with "spirit" and matters of faith which is such a major part of my life. I realized early on that we can affect others we never meet - good or bad - based on our present state of "balance" in all areas of our life. So, for me, that leads to questions of deep personal responsibility to my emotions, mind, spirit and body.
But as we all know, lofty realizations and implementation are two different things! I believe that it is this "moving" from one to point to the other that is the soul's journey towards learning, wholeness, maturation that is our purpose while I am on this planet.
Most everyone in my family has had serious health challenges. My father, for example, was an alcoholic and diabetic which lead to serious health complications that consumed his life and took him "prematurely." There is cancer, substance abuse issues, diabetes and mental health issues in my family history also. All of these previous health concerns have a genetic tendency so we're told. So, I have to be ever mindful. To date, I haven't had to deal with any of it. I count this to divine grace and very deliberate and mindful lifestyle choices.
Fast forward a number of years I met the love of my life after an unsuccessful "marrriage." Now I am with the woman my heart had missed since I was a child. The lonliness is gone and the Love is everpresent.
Going forward in my life, it's anyone's guess although I try to remove as much of the guesswork as possible! There is so much wonder and grace in the world that I have given up on trying to worry to much about it all. I do plan to enjoy life, though and give myself every chance and reason to stick around. I love this journey and my wife too much to do anything else.

About a year and a half ago I went to the doctor and for the first time in my life my blood pressure was borderline "high", weighed nearly 200lbs with a body fat percentage that put my into the "overweight" category. I found this situation unacceptable.
A year or so at the gym helped some but then my wife brought Shaun T's Insanity to my attention! So, for Christmas I bought her Slim In 6 and she gave me Insanity as a gift.
I went to a nurse nurse practitioner with a deep background in sports medicine. After some tests, I was given the green-light to get into Insanity. In fact, I found out that my cardiovascular system was in very excellent shape with great recovery abilities. This made me feel more much confident about diving completely into what would be a demanding program.
